SODA POP SHOULD NOT BE SPENDING HER SENIOR YEARS IN A SHELTER.
This beautiful girl was recently brought in as a stray, and since we didn’t know her name, we decided to call her Soda Pop #Soda for short.
And Soda has been nothing but kind since the moment she arrived.
She’s an older German Shepherd who has clearly lived some life.
She came in wearing a collar, so at some point, she belonged to someone. Someone knew this girl. Someone put that collar around her neck. And now, somehow, she’s here.
Soda could definitely use some TLC. Her back end seems a little weak and her hips appear to bother her some, but none of that has stopped her from being the sweetest old lady. She listens incredibly well, wants to stay close to you, and honestly seems perfectly content with the senior-dog lifestyle:
Snuggle with a human.
Find a comfy spot.
Take a nap.
Wake up and make sure the human is still there.
Possibly take another nap because being adorable is exhausting.
That’s Soda.
We have not officially dog tested her yet. She doesn’t seem bothered by the dogs around her, but a meet with any resident dog will be required before adoption.
What hurts our hearts most is that right now Soda is staying in one of our outdoor kennels. Our shelter is extremely full, and we simply do not have the space we wish we had. We aren’t getting relief from other rescues right now, and dogs continue to come through our doors.
And an older girl like Soda deserves something softer than this.
She deserves a warm bed. A quiet house. Someone who doesn’t care that her legs aren’t quite as strong as they used to be. Someone who sees a senior dog and doesn’t think about how many years she has left, but instead thinks about how GOOD those years could be.
Maybe Soda didn’t expect to end up at a shelter at this stage of her life. We certainly didn’t want that for her either.
But perhaps this is just the crappy chapter before the really good one.
