I’m Mars.
Sweet , brindle lady , under a year old, about 35 pounds, and apparently I was just out there wandering the streets like I had somewhere important to be. I did not. I showed up skinny, scared and completely unsure of these strange humans who suddenly decided I needed food, love, attention...and eventually a giant necklace of flowers. Honestly, things have escalated quickly around here.
But guess what? I’m starting to figure this whole thing out.
I am VERY much a puppy. My résumé currently includes being adorable, needing guidance, learning how the world works, and occasionally making questionable decisions because my brain is approximately 63% puppy nonsense.
Now, we do need to talk about my feelings toward the other dogs here. When I’m inside the shelter and walking past their kennels, I can be reactive. In my defense, imagine walking through a hallway while 47 roommates are yelling their opinions at you. That does not automatically tell us how I’ll do with another dog outside of this stressful environment, so if you have a resident dog, we’ll take our time and do a proper meet and greet to see what I actually think.
What Mars really needs is someone willing to look past the scared little stray who first walked through our doors and see the young dog underneath. She’s got growing to do, things to learn and weight to gain—but she has her whole life ahead of her.
And LOOK AT THAT FACE. She went from “please don’t touch me” to “excuse me, are these flowers making my eyes pop?”
