#PENELOPE — THOSE EYES ARE TRYING SO HARD TO TRUST.
Sometimes you take pictures of a dog and you can almost see exactly what they’re feeling.
That’s Penelope.
This sweet girl was found sitting on someone’s back porch in Girard. We waited for someone to call. We waited for someone to recognize her. We waited for someone to come looking.
No one has.
And looking at Penelope, it’s hard to believe she hasn’t belonged to someone. She appears to have been well cared for. She doesn’t look like a dog who has spent her life wandering the streets. Somewhere along the way, this girl had a life, and now she’s suddenly here, surrounded by unfamiliar people, barking dogs, strange smells and absolutely no idea what happened.
Just look at her eyes in these pictures.
During our little photo shoot, we put the pretty flowers on her and tried to show her that she was safe. Her tail stayed tucked between her legs almost the entire time. She watched every movement. Those big brown eyes kept looking up at us like she was trying to decide, “Are you sure I can trust you?”
She wants to.
You can see it.
Penelope is very, very scared right now. Not mean. Not difficult. Just overwhelmed and unsure. She probably weighs around 48 pounds, and underneath all that worry is a very sweet girl who just needs someone willing to give her a little time.
A few things about Penelope:
She has not officially been dog tested yet. She doesn’t seem to mind the dogs around her here, but that does NOT tell us how she will live with another dog. A meet and greet with any resident dog will be required.
She has not been cat tested.
We are recommending older, respectful children at this time. She is simply so timid and easily overwhelmed that we want to set her up for success and give her the calmer environment she needs while she learns that she is safe.
And somehow those giant pink flowers make these pictures even sweeter. Here she is dressed up like the prettiest girl at the party while her face is basically saying, “I have absolutely no idea what is happening, but apparently we’re wearing flowers now.”
