Meet Russell, our newest handsome gentleman at The Healthy Hearts and Paws Project.
Russell arrived with a friend who needed some medical attention. At this time, we’re going to separate the two and work on finding placement for each of them. Our shelter is FULL, and we would much rather see Russell settling into a home than sitting here waiting.
Now, about the name Russell.
Symbolically, Russell is associated with warmth, strength, boldness and spirited energy.
And so far, the warmth part fits this guy perfectly.
He has shown our volunteers nothing but kindness.
He sat beautifully for his pictures.
Looked right at the camera. Cooperated like a professional.
Except for his ears.
Russell.
Sir.
WHERE ARE YOUR EARS?
We KNOW you have them. We were hoping for the full ears-forward glamour shot, but apparently Russell has decided those will be released at a later date once we’ve earned that level of trust.
And then there’s that ONE WHITE PAW.
Excuse us, Russell, but did you really think we weren’t going to mention that?
Three little black feet and then one perfectly dipped-in-white paw like somebody got halfway through painting you and said, “Nope. Leave it. That’s the good part.”
It’s his little signature.
His finishing touch.
His “just in case I wasn’t already cute enough” paw.
And yes, we absolutely noticed it immediately.
Russell appears to be an older guy based on his teeth, possibly around 5+ years old, but we can’t say for certain. Poor nutrition or lack of dental care can sometimes make teeth look older, so his exact age is still a bit of a mystery.
Although he arrived with another dog, we would still require a proper meet and greet with any resident dog. From what we’ve seen so far, we think a nice, calm canine companion may be a good fit for him.
And there’s something we REALLY don’t want to happen...
Russell is another black dog in a full shelter.
Those dogs can so easily blend into the background.
