Rocky is a 3-year-old, 65-pound Lab mix with excellent house manners and an underbite that suggests someone in his family tree was a Dogue de Bordeaux. This seems improbable. Rocky and his sister came to rescue after their family lost their home to foreclosure. His sister has since been adopted, and Rocky is still waiting for his person. He has a lot to offer: he is housebroken, well mannered in the home, and exceptionally well trained. We put real work into this dog, and it shows.
His ideal person actually enjoys getting out and doing things. Runs, long walks, backyard games, something interesting to learn: Rocky would like to participate. If your resolution to exercise survives January 2, he would like your application. He needs movement and mental stimulation to feel his best. I achieve roughly the same feeling with a sofa and a Red Bull, but we all have our methods. A fenced yard and a real commitment to daily exercise are musts.
Rocky generally enjoys friendly dogs, particularly those who share his enthusiasm for full-contact recreational nonsense. His play style is enthusiastic wrestling, so a compatible, sturdy playmate could be a great fit. Delicate dogs who would prefer to file a noise complaint are unlikely to appreciate him.
He previously lived with children, but we think his best fit is a home with teenagers or adults who can enjoy his energy without small people underfoot. He has been pleasant with cats, although we cannot confidently say whether that reflects friendship or an interest in seeing what happens when they run. Any potential feline roommates would need to be very dog-savvy, with careful introductions and management.
Rocky thrives with someone who is kind, clear, and consistent. He knows plenty; he just needs a person who follows through. If bedtime is eight but at 8:15 you can be negotiated into handing out cupcakes, he may have your number by dinner.
For an active person who appreciates a trained dog, a good routine, and a truly distinguished chin, Rocky could be an excellent companion. His best is very, very good. He is ready for someone to see it.
