Ellis is a 2 year old, 80 pound Great Pyrenees. He would like to get to know you without being required to give a presentation about himself on the first day. He is a very timid boy with a personality still waiting for enough quiet and confidence to make its entrance, but it is definitely there. He has already made real progress with us and he wants to be close to his humans. Now he needs a home where he can keep going at his own pace, preferably without anyone announcing that we’re all going to a brewery.
Ellis needs patient, undemanding people who can let a relationship develop without putting it on a deadline. A predictable routine, a quiet household and the freedom to observe before participating will go a long way. If you understand that choosing to sit a little closer can be a big declaration, you may be his kind of person.
He does well with other dogs who have the manners to refrain from landing on his head. A calm, confident dog friend would be a real asset as he learns the household routine and discovers that ordinary life can be pretty good. Children in the adolescent years past the screeching years are fine, provided they can respect his space and let him come to them. A securely fenced yard is required, especially since the outside world still feels overwhelming to him.
There is a dog in there very much worth getting to know. His people will be the ones who find pleasure in the small revelations: a little curiosity, a new bit of confidence, the first invitation to join him in whatever he’s doing. Ellis has no interest in being rushed. He does have a great future ahead of him, and we would very much like to introduce him to it.
