Meet Ruby!

Ruby is an adorable 9 year old Terrier mix weighing just 8 pounds. We think there may be some Yorkie or Silky Terrier in this precious little girl, but whatever her breed may be, one thing is certain, she is an absolute LOVE BUG who deserves the very best life has to offer!

Sadly, Ruby came into the shelter in absolutely heartbreaking condition. She was so severely matted that an article of clothing had actually become tangled and embedded into her fur. It was clear this sweet girl had gone far too long without the proper care she deserved. Thankfully, those days are behind her! Ruby has since been shaved down, and her beautiful coat will have a chance to grow back healthy and comfortable. Despite everything she’s been through, she has remained one of the sweetest, most affectionate little dogs you could ever meet.

Ruby absolutely ADORES people! Men, women, new faces - she’s happy to make friends with just about everyone. She loves being held, follows her people around the house, and has the cutest little habit of gently headbutting you when you’ve stopped petting her. She’s a little needy in the most endearing way and would happily spend her days being someone’s spoiled little companion. She also has a playful side and loves grabbing her toys and thrashing them around. It’s absolutely adorable to watch!

Ruby is looking for a home where she can be the one and only dog. She’s not particularly fond of other dogs and will bark at them, so we think she’d be happiest being the queen of her own castle. She can also be a little sensitive to sudden loud noises, likely due to her difficult past, so a quieter home would be ideal. We don’t think a busy apartment environment would be the best fit for her. Despite loving attention, Ruby does wonderfully when left home alone in her playpen, sleeps soundly through the night, and isn’t an excessively barky girl. She also enjoys car rides, rides nicely in her little car seat, and does well walking on a leash. She’s been doing great using pee pads in the house, too!

Ruby recently had bloodwork done, which looked very good for her age! She does have a slightly unusual gait, and our veterinarian suspects some arthritis and decreased muscle tone, potentially related to her previous neglect and the severity of her matting. She doesn’t appear to be uncomfortable, and we’re hopeful that with proper nutrition, gentle exercise, and continued care, she’ll gain some strength and mobility. Ruby is also scheduled for a dental procedure to get those little teeth taken care of.

Ruby will be spayed, brought up to date on her veterinary care, and receive her health certificate prior to adoption. This precious girl has already experienced more hardship than any dog should, but you would never know it from the amount of love she has to give. She’s affectionate, playful, loyal, and wants nothing more than to be someone’s beloved little shadow.
Ruby deserves a soft place to land, a warm lap to curl up in, and a family who will make sure she never goes without love or proper care again. We have a feeling whoever adopts this special little girl is going to fall completely head over heels for her!
