Meet Toby!

Toby is a 9 year old Dachshund mix weighing around 19 pounds. This handsome little guy came into rescue after his beloved owner entered hospice care, and understandably, having his entire world suddenly change was a lot for him. Toby isn’t the dog who will necessarily run into a stranger’s arms five minutes after meeting them, but give him a little time, and you’ll get to see what an incredibly special boy he really is.

Toby prefers a slower, gentler approach when meeting new people. He likes having the opportunity to observe, settle in, and decide that you’re safe without being rushed into affection. But once Toby bonds with you, he bonds hard. He becomes incredibly loyal, loving, affectionate, and devoted to his person. Earning this boy’s trust is absolutely worth it.

We’ve also learned more about what Toby needs to be happiest, and he will be looking for a home where he can be the only dog. He can become defensive and protective around other dogs, and we’ve actually seen him doing better when he doesn’t have that dynamic to worry about. Cats, however, are perfectly fine with him! He’s lived around them and tends to simply ignore them.

Toby is fully house trained, crate trained, and walks nicely on a leash. He’s a good boy who simply needs the right environment and people who understand that relationships don’t have to happen overnight. Once he knows you’re his person, you’ll have one incredibly loyal little sidekick.

Toby is fully vetted, neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and will have his health certificate prior to adoption. He’s looking for a quieter home, no other dogs, and someone willing to give him the little bit of patience he needs in the beginning. Give Toby the chance to trust you on his own terms, and he’ll give you one very loving, loyal little best friend in return.
