Jefe means "the boss," and this 34-pound executive has several firm policies: naps should be unlimited, couches should be mandatory, and portion control is a violation of his civil liberties. Unfortunately for Jefe, his new health administration has introduced sweeping reforms.

Jefe is about 7 years old and was unceremoniously surrendered by his previous owner to a local shelter before making his way to Pug Nation. It's clear that he didn't receive the care he deserved in the past, but all that is changing for the better now!

Jefe is very overweight and still needs to lose close to 10 pounds. Because he also has an elongated soft palate that makes breathing more difficult, getting him to a healthy weight isn't about aesthetics. It's essential to helping him breathe more comfortably and protecting his health as he gets older.

He's already begun his weight-loss journey and is making progress, despite his strong preference for the couch-potato lifestyle. His future family will need to stay committed to controlled portions, healthy treats, appropriate exercise, and resisting the persuasive face of a pug.

Jefe is also mostly blind because of chronic dry eye that went untreated for far too long. His eyes are improving with care, but his vision isn't expected to return. He'll need daily eye drops to keep them lubricated and comfortable for the rest of his life. Luckily, limited vision hasn't stopped him from navigating toward a friendly voice, a soft bed, or anyone who is remotely available for cuddling.

And cuddling is where Jefe truly excels. He's a big, sweet lug who loves lounging, napping, resting, and taking brief recovery naps after all that lounging. He does well with other dogs and is friendly with the people he meets, especially those willing to join his inner circle and scratch his substantial back.
