Alvin is a 2-year-old sweetheart from Alabama, who is ready for his third act. Though his past wasn't filled with the love every dog deserves, he's never stopped believing that better days are ahead.
Alvin experienced the kind of hardship that no living being should have to endure. In the spring of 2025, someone rushed into the lobby of the Birmingham Humane Society carrying a dog who barely seemed alive before quickly disappearing. Alvin weighed just 29 pounds and couldn't even stand. He was covered in urine and had pressure sores across his body. We have the photos, and they're heartbreaking. But that's not the story we want to tell-because everything that happened afterward reminds us just how resilient dogs can be.
Alvin was hospitalized for several days, and then taken in by a local rescue who placed him in a foster home. Once Alvin recovered, he was quickly adopted by a wonderful man. Sadly, after a year, his adopter passed away suddenly. Alvin found himself back in his foster home, where he was very loved by not just the people, but by the dogs and the cats, too! His foster from Alabama writes, "Alvin LOVES other dogs, but he is also just as sweet to cats and the little kids. He is the baby around here. Our dogs lick him and treat him like their baby!"
Though Alvin is understandably a bit confused to have wound up with us, we know we are going to find him the best home! It doesn't take long for this resilient boy to feel comfortable, and that is when Alvin's true personality begins to shine. He's incredibly sweet, calm, and affectionate, finding comfort in the people he trusts. His fosters say that despite his size (he could stand to lose a little bit of weight!), he does this hilarious, straight-up little vertical jump when he gets excited!
Alvin is loving meeting everyone at Heartland- he is a dream to walk, and is very treat motivated! He especially loves playgroup. He is great with other dogs, and is so good with his kennel roomie, Walker.
Alvin doesn't need a perfect home. He just needs a family willing to give him what he needs the most: safety, kindness, and unconditional love. In return, you'll gain a loyal best friend whose gratitude is felt in every cuddle and every loving glance.
We know that the hardest chapters of Alvin's story are behind him. All that's missing now is the happy ending.
Alvin's adoption fee is $300. This animal is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
