If you've ever wondered what would happen if a Basset Hound and a bully breed had a chance encounter... allow us to introduce Wheaties.

With her big bobblehead, long and sturdy body, and adorably short legs, Wheaties looks like someone hit the randomize button on the dog creator-and somehow ended up with perfection. In reality, we have no idea what mix she is, but we would love to know the recipe!

Wheaties is approximately a year old and came to us from Chicago Animal Care and Control, after being found as a stray in July. When we first met Wheaties, we were immediately charmed-not just by her delightfully wonky proportions, but by her personality. She greeted every person and every dog she met with joyful enthusiasm, as though she'd been waiting all day just to make a new friend. She's outgoing, affectionate, and has the kind of happy-go-lucky attitude that makes everyone around her smile.

And then there's her voice...

One look at Wheaties and you might expect a squeaky little bark to match her compact frame. You would be wrong. Instead, she unleashes a deep, honking bray that sounds somewhere between an elderly donkey and a tugboat announcing its arrival in the harbor. It is so unexpected that it catches everyone off guard-and then has them laughing. It's just one more thing that makes Wheaties impossible to forget.

Wheaties has an outgoing and fun nature. She's playful without being wild, and seems genuinely delighted just to be included in whatever you're doing. She loves making new friends, both dog and human!

If your idea of the perfect companion is a dog who will make strangers smile, make you laugh every day, and remind you that the best things in life don't have to make perfect sense, Wheaties might just be your girl.

Wheaties's adoption fee has been generously sponsored by The Rosenthal Family Foundation. She is spayed, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
