Ody (Odysseus) - Great Pyrenees Dog for Adoption in New Fairfield, Connecticut

Meet Ody.
Ody is a 2-year-old Great Pyrenees mix coming all the way from Texas to NFSAW because this boy deserves a second chance at the life he was always supposed to have.
And believe me when I tell you:
This dog has been through hell.
Ody was seized by authorities after being tied to his former owner's truck and forced to "exercise" as the truck drove down the road. When the truck began going faster, Ody was eventually dragged across the pavement.
He survived.
He healed.
And somehow, incredibly, he still loves people.
That is the part of Ody's story that gets me.
After being betrayed by a human being, he didn't decide that all humans were bad. He decided to keep loving them.
Ody is described by his foster family as one of the most loyal dogs they've ever known. He is a gentle giant, wonderful with people, and very comfortable around other dogs and even cats.
In fact, Ody seems to genuinely enjoy having other animals around.
He has a canine girlfriend who apparently bounces all over him while Ody stands there patiently accepting the attention like the gentleman he is.
And heaven help us if Ody is separated from his dog friends for too long.
He misses them.
That tells you everything.
Ody is also a pretty terrific character.
He isn't particularly interested in water.
Treats? He's selective. Apparently Milk-Bone is the brand that gets his attention.
Balls? Occasionally.
The Chuckit ball? Now we're talking.
And if you gently start roughhousing with him, be prepared for the Ody Bunny Hop - his adorable little play routine where he hops around and starts play-fighting right back.
His other favorite activities include getting approximately all the pets, especially behind his ears and on the butt.
Honestly, Ody sounds like a dog who has decided that life is much better when you're surrounded by people who scratch you in exactly the right places.
And after everything he's been through...
we agree.
Ody's medical checklist is complete: neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, dewormed, heartworm negative, and the injuries from his past have healed.
Now he needs the part no veterinarian can prescribe:
a home.
A safe one.
A loving one.
A patient one.
A place where he can finally learn that nobody is going to hurt him again.
I am flying Ody out from Texas because I believe that his past does not get to determine his future.
He has already shown us what kind of dog he is.
Loyal.
Gentle.
Forgiving.
Dog friendly.
People loving.
Now it's our turn to show him what kind of life he can have.
Ody left a very big mark on his foster mom's heart.
I have a feeling he's about to leave one on ours, too.
And somewhere out here, I hope there is a person whose heart is big enough for this very big, very special dog.
"Ody doesn't need to forget what happened to him. He just needs to learn that it will never happen again."
