Stetson - Mixed Breed and Dalmatian Dog for Adoption in New Fairfield, Connecticut

"Sometimes, all it takes is one person to change everything."

Somewhere in Moultrie, Georgia, two college students stopped at McDonald's.

They had no idea that before they got back in their car, they would meet a dog who would change the course of their entire day - and possibly his entire life.

They witnessed five dogs attacking Stetson.

They tried to intervene, but the dogs wouldn't stop. Eventually they managed to drive the pack away, and when they reached Stetson, they saw the puncture wounds covering his face and neck.

They could have called someone.

They could have driven away.

They didn't.

They called their parents, put a frightened, injured dog into their car, and drove 14 hours from Georgia to Connecticut because they couldn't bear the thought of leaving him behind.

And that's how Stetson found his way to us.

Now it's our turn.

Stetson is a young adult male who has clearly been through something terrifying. He's understandably scared right now, and his wounds are still healing - but there is something incredibly important we want everyone to know:

Stetson is not aggressive.

Not even a little.

This sweet boy has every reason in the world to be angry at dogs, people, or the universe in general.

Instead, he is gentle.

Quiet.

Trusting.

And desperately hoping someone will show him that the world isn't always a scary place.

Those marks on his muzzle aren't freckles or unusual coloring.

They are wounds from the attack.

We are taking care of the physical part. The rest - the confidence, the trust, the realization that he is finally safe - will come with time, patience and love.

For now, Stetson would do best as an only dog. Other dogs frighten him after what happened, and we aren't going to ask him to face that fear before he's ready.

What Stetson needs is remarkably simple:

A safe home.

A patient person.

A soft place to sleep.

Someone who will let him discover what being someone's beloved dog actually feels like.

He doesn't need to be the bravest dog in the room.

He doesn't need to prove anything.

He's already survived enough.

Now he gets to learn how wonderful life can be.

And someday, when Stetson is sprawled on a couch, completely relaxed, surrounded by people who adore him, we hope he forgets the road from Georgia entirely.

Because his story shouldn't end with five dogs chasing him through a parking lot.

It should end with someone saying:

"This is Stetson. He's ours. He's safe. And he's home."

The two students who rescued him gave Stetson the first part of his second chance.

We're determined to give him the rest.

Stetson is safe now. And we intend to keep it that way.
