SALEM IS CURRENTLY FOSTERED NEAR CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA.

Salem is an approximately 9-month-old Goldendoodle/Great Dane mix who came to us as an owner surrender along with his siblings. He is now settling into foster care and slowly learning what it means to feel safe and comfortable in a new home.

Salem is a sweet, gentle boy who is still very unsure of the world around him, but he is gaining confidence a little more every day. He tends to be a follower and takes comfort from the dogs around him. He has already started coming out of his shell with Willie and is beginning to discover some of the simple comforts of home, including beds and now the couch.

Salem is very food motivated, especially when it comes to people food, so his foster is working with him on boundaries and helping him learn what belongs to him and what does not. He is also beginning to work on basic commands. He has shown that he knows how to sit, although he is still learning to do it consistently when asked.

Salem is currently working on potty training and has had no accidents so far. He is also working on leash manners and crate training. The kennel is especially difficult for him right now, and he may howl, cry, and drool when crated. Car rides and unfamiliar doorways can also make him nervous, so he will need a patient family willing to help him build confidence at his own pace.

Salem does well with other dogs and would likely benefit from a calm, confident canine companion who can continue showing him that new experiences are safe. He is looking for a family that understands that trust and confidence take time. With patience, consistency, and lots of positive reinforcement, Salem has every opportunity to blossom into an incredibly loving companion.

Salem is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, on monthly preventative, dewormed, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $450.

If you’re interested in giving Salem the forever home he deserves, please complete our adoption application linked below. Thank you for considering adoption!
