Smarties (Photos July 14th 2026) - Beagle Dog for Adoption in Marietta, Ohio

Smarties is a cute one-year old female Beagle who was brought to the HSOV on July 14, 2026 by a Good Samaritan who found her on Front Street in Marietta Ohio. Smarties was not wearing a collar (hence there was neither an id tag nor a dog license tag available). We were encouraged when she was scanned for a microchip and one was detected!! But our hope diminished when we discovered that the microchip had not been registered to an owner.

Smarties has a tricolor short smooth coat, a long tail, and a sweet Beagle face with dark brown eyes, a slender muzzle, and large floppy ears.

This little lovebug adores attention and to be carried in your arms.

Smarties is a petite young lady who weighs approximately 20 lbs.

These photos were taken late in the afternoon on July 14th when HSOV Volunteer Jennie Payton Sherrard accompanied Smarties for outdoor photos. Smarties was more interested in showing off her 'zoomies' expertise around Jennie than posing for boring still-life pictures.

In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Smarties will be held for the mandatory three-day stray hold so that her family will have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership.

The Beagle is a beloved breed known for its friendly nature, curious personality, and distinctive howl. These small to medium sized dogs are incredibly sociable and get along well with both humans and other pets. Beagles are curious and energetic, always eager to follow a scent with their incredible sense of smell, making them excellent hunting and tracking dogs. Their short coat is easy to maintain, and they are adaptable to various living environments, making them popular companions for families and individuals alike.
