Kip *special needs* - Pug Dog for Adoption in Gardena, California

This little boy was found crying in a bush when he was only a couple of weeks old. Thankfully, the person who found him realized he needed help and brought him to Pug Nation. A bush is not an acceptable nursery, and Kip had much bigger things to worry about than landscaping.

When he arrived, his head was noticeably enlarged. Our vet confirmed that Kip has a mild case of hydrocephalus, a condition involving excess fluid within the brain. We have spent the last couple of months closely monitoring him, caring for him, and watching him grow and little Kip has been thriving!

Since arriving, he has not had any seizures, blindness, or obvious neurological symptoms. His vet expects daily medication to help manage his condition, and we are hopeful about his future. Dogs with milder hydrocephalus can enjoy a good quality of life with appropriate care, but this is a lifelong commitment, not something his family can assume he will simply outgrow.

Kip will need consistent medication, regular veterinary follow-ups, and someone attentive to changes in his vision, balance, behavior, or development. His care may need to change as he grows. He also has a small soft spot at the front of his head, so gentle handling and protection from bumps, falls, and rough play are especially important.

Then there is his other diagnosis: puppy. Kip still needs all the time, patient training, safe socialization, and supervision that any pup needs. We are looking for an experienced adopter who is not away for long hours and has the time and resources to support both his puppyhood and his medical needs. Someone who can appreciate how well he is doing while taking his care seriously.
