Shiloh is basically a 75-pound cotton-ball with four legs and a heart of gold. At around 10 months to a year old, this handsome, neutered Great Pyrenees is all fluffy white fur, double dew claws, and endless affection. He's still very much a puppy at heart and would happily climb into your lap for kisses if you'd let him. If you're looking for a gentle lovebug who wants nothing more than to be close to his people, Shiloh is your guy.
Shiloh is being fostered in Austin, Texas and is available for adoption out of state. Transport can be arranged by the rescue once matched with an approved adopter. The adoption process includes an application, phone interview, video call with the foster home, virtual home visit, and vet and personal reference checks.
Shiloh and his sister came into rescue after their owner made the difficult decision to surrender them. They had developed a habit of escaping their livestock fencing, something we suspect was largely driven by the fact that neither had been spayed or neutered. Since being neutered and settling into foster care, Shiloh hasn't attempted to escape. Even so, because of his athletic ability and curious nature, we recommend a home with a secure fence to help keep him safe. He's also surprisingly clever and can escape a standard wire crate, so a sturdy crate is recommended whenever he's home alone.
Because Shiloh spent his entire puppyhood with the same family, new environments can feel a little overwhelming at first. He may need a little time to find his footing and come out of his shell, but once he feels safe, his affectionate personality shines. This sweet boy absolutely loves people and wants to be as close to them as possible. Whether he's leaning against your legs, following you from room to room, or trying to curl up in your lap despite his size, Shiloh is happiest soaking up love.
And if there’s a pool around, you can pretty much guarantee Shiloh will find it. This boy absolutely loves the water and will happily splash, wade, and lounge around like the pool was put there specifically for him. A pool definitely isn’t required for his future home, but access to one would earn you some serious bonus points with Shiloh.
Shiloh is potty trained, crate trained, and walks beautifully on leash. He's a joy to take out for walks, with loose-leash manners and no signs of reactivity. He enjoys getting out to explore the world, then happily heads home for a well-earned nap.
He has a wonderful moderate energy level that makes him easy to live with. He loves running around the yard, playing with other dogs, and enjoying time outdoors, but once he's had a chance to burn off some energy, he's perfectly content relaxing with his people. Like any young dog, he's still very much a puppy and occasionally gets himself into a little mischief, especially if he's feeling anxious or bored. Providing him with structure, enrichment, and appropriate outlets for his energy will help him continue growing into a wonderful adult dog.
Shiloh absolutely loves other dogs and would do best in a home with a well-balanced adult canine companion. Another confident dog will not only provide him with a playmate but also continue helping him build confidence in new situations.
Like many dogs who form deep bonds with their families, Shiloh has some separation anxiety and does best when someone is home more often than not. A work-from-home or hybrid schedule would be ideal for him. He simply loves being part of everyday life and wants to be wherever his people are.
Shiloh hasn't been around cats or children, but based on his gentle, affectionate nature, we think he'd likely do well with respectful, dog-savvy kids who understand how to interact appropriately with dogs and respect their boundaries.
As a Great Pyrenees, Shiloh will need regular grooming to keep his beautiful coat healthy and free of mats. He also sheds seasonally, so his future family should be prepared for a little extra brushing and vacuuming. And, true to his breed, Shiloh likes to keep an eye on his surroundings. If he hears an unfamiliar noise or notices someone outside, he may let out a few alert barks before settling right back down.
If you've been dreaming of a giant, fluffy best friend who wants nothing more than to love you with his whole heart, Shiloh is ready to make that dream come true. He's equal parts playful puppy, gentle companion, and oversized cuddle bug, and he's ready to find the family he's been waiting for.
