We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog.
Bolt, 5,5 months old (Estimate DOB March 2026), neutered male, Staffordshire Terrier mix, currently weighs 43 pounds as of 9/3. He will continue to grow and will be a larger size dog when full grown. Exact weight is unknown. He is in a foster home in Houston, Texas.
Bolt was rescued from being euthanized at a county shelter in Houston. He is an amazing puppy and we are so thankful he has the rest of his life to look forward to.
If you’re looking for a happy, affectionate, adventure-loving puppy who wants to be right by your side, meet Bolt! Bolt is a big, goofy baby who is still figuring out how all those legs, paws, and puppy thoughts are supposed to work together. He is playful, curious, affectionate, and eager to learn—and he is going to make an incredible companion for someone who is ready to continue guiding him as he grows.
Bolt LOVES people and is naturally friendly with everyone he meets. He is curious and outgoing rather than shy, and his favorite place is usually as close to his person as possible. He is a big-time cuddle bug who will happily snuggle up with you, while also being respectful when told that it’s time to give you some space.
Bolt and Other Dogs
Bolt is energetic, joyful, and wonderfully goofy when playing with other dogs. He loves zooming around, wrestling, and roughhousing with dogs who enjoy his puppy antics, particularly dogs around 40–55 pounds who can tolerate his enthusiastic play style. He has interacted with dogs ranging from small to large breeds and is generally very friendly and deferential, especially with older dogs.
That said, Bolt is still learning his doggy manners. He doesn't always recognize immediately when another dog is finished playing, and he can be a little slow to understand personal-space boundaries. He isn't aggressive or dominant—he's simply a young puppy who is very excited to make friends! His person will need to supervise and help him understand when it's time to back off or settle down. With maturity, consistency, and more experience around appropriately social dogs, we expect these skills to continue improving.
On leash, Bolt is generally curious and eager to meet other dogs. Even when another dog is loud or reactive, Bolt's response is typically one of curiosity.
Bolt and Cats
Bolt has shown curiosity toward cats and may want to chase if given the opportunity. He has not lived with a cat, so a cat-free home would likely be the easiest match for him at this stage.
Bolt and Kids
Bolt has not spent extensive time living with children, but he is friendly and comfortable around people he encounters in public. He has no concerning behavior toward children and could potentially be a wonderful family dog with proper supervision and guidance.
Because he is a high-energy, rambunctious puppy who is still learning boundaries, his family will need to teach him how to appropriately interact with children and supervise play. He isn't a puppy who should simply be turned loose and expected to figure everything out on his own.
An Active Boy With Lots of Potential
Bolt has a fair amount of energy and needs a family ready to keep his body and brain busy. He would do best with two 30ish minute walks each day, along with additional play and enrichment.
He loves chewing, enjoys his toys, and has already discovered that swimming is pretty awesome. He may also become a big fan of fetch and tug-of-war as he develops his interests. The important thing is that Bolt needs more than just a quick walk around the block. He needs opportunities to play, explore, learn, chew, and burn off that puppy energy.
And here's a bonus: Bolt absolutely LOVES baths! Getting dirty, sandy, or muddy doesn't have to be a disaster with this guy—he genuinely enjoys getting cleaned up and dried off.
Despite his energy, Bolt is not an uncontrollable puppy. Once he has had appropriate exercise and stimulation, he can settle down and sleeps through the night without a problem.
Still a Puppy, Still Learning
Bolt is doing very well with his house training. He understands that potty happens outside and is generally reliable when taken out appropriately. He has had a couple of accidents on green or blue carpets, apparently because they looked suspiciously like grass to his puppy brain!
He is also learning the difference between "food" and "things that are definitely not food." Shoes have only made it onto the menu once, and he responds very well to redirection. He isn't intentionally destructive, but he is curious and athletic and should not be allowed to free-roam unsupervised for long periods yet.
Bolt is crate trained and can stay crated for approximately 2–6 hours. He may complain for the first 5–20 minutes with some barking or whining before settling down. He is still working on becoming completely comfortable with confinement, so his adopter should be prepared to continue positive crate training.
Training
Bolt is a smart puppy who genuinely wants to listen to his person. He already understands commands such as sit, stopping an activity, and halting/heeling, and he responds well to clear, consistent direction.
Bolt isn't a finished product—and that's exactly what makes him so exciting. He's a puppy with an excellent foundation who needs someone willing to continue helping him become the amazing adult dog he's destined to be.
Bolt Is a Road-Trip Dog!
One of Bolt's best features? He is an absolutely fantastic car rider.
More than anything, Bolt needs an ATTENTIVE owner.
He doesn't need someone who is home 24/7 or someone who expects puppy perfection. He needs someone who is engaged, patient, active, and willing to teach him. Someone who will notice when he's getting overstimulated, redirect him when he's making questionable puppy choices, provide him with appropriate outlets for his energy, and help him understand the rules.
Bolt is the kind of puppy who wants to be part of everything. He wants to play with you, cuddle with you, learn from you, explore with you, and generally make himself part of whatever his people are doing.
He is affectionate. He is silly. He is adventurous. He is eager to please. And he is still very much a puppy.
For the right person, Bolt has all the ingredients to grow into an incredible lifelong companion.

Virtual home visit, personal and vet reference checks are required to complete the process. Transport is included in our adoption donation.
