***Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time***
We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog.
Lola Mae, 10 months (DOB Nov 2025), spayed female, Maltese mix, 8 pounds. She is in a foster home in Houston, Texas.
Lola was surrendered by her owner who had purchased her as a young puppy. She realized she did not have time to care for a dog and we were able to connect and bring her into rescue.
Sweet, silly, and just a little bit shy, Lola is a 10-month-old puppy who is discovering that the world is a pretty wonderful place! She may take a little time to warm up, but once Lola decides you’re one of her people, her sweet personality comes shining through. She’s playful, cuddly, curious, affectionate, and always ready for a good case of the zoomies!
Lola does well with other dogs, although she can be shy when meeting them for the first time. She may need some time to feel comfortable, but once she warms up, she enjoys being around them and playing.
She has interacted well with small and medium-sized dogs and has shown no major concerns with her canine friends. Because she is still a young puppy learning appropriate social skills, continued supervision and guidance during play will help her continue developing good dog manners.
Lola has a moderate-to-high puppy energy level. She loves exploring, playing, and getting the zoomies — which are honestly one of her best features! But after she's had her fun, she's perfectly happy to settle down and enjoy some cuddles.
She doesn't necessarily need another dog in her forever home, but she certainly enjoys canine companionship and could be very happy with a friendly, well-socialized dog who can be a good playmate and role model.
What About Cats?
Lola has been around a cat and is VERY curious about them!
When she sees a cat, she may bark and try to convince them that they should become her new best friend. The funny part? When the cat actually tries to play with her, Lola suddenly becomes a little unsure and runs away!
She has not displayed aggression toward the cat. She is simply a curious puppy who is still figuring out exactly what cats are all about. With slow, supervised introductions and appropriate boundaries, Lola could potentially live happily with a cat.
Great With Kids
Lola has been around children ranging from 3 to 12 years old and has done well with them.
Because Lola is naturally a little shy, she would do best with children who understand that she may need a little time to warm up. Rather than having everyone immediately rush over to pet her, she would appreciate being allowed to approach people when she's ready.
She can live with children of various ages, including younger kids, as long as interactions are supervised and everyone understands how to respectfully interact with a young, somewhat shy puppy.
Leash Learning
Lola doesn't mind wearing a leash, but she hasn't quite decided that walking on one is her favorite activity yet!
She would benefit from continued positive leash training and plenty of short, successful walks where she can learn that being attached to a leash is nothing to worry about. With patience and consistency, she should continue becoming a more confident little walking companion.
House & Crate Training
Lola is still working on her house training. At approximately 10 months old, she occasionally has accidents, so her new family should be prepared to continue with a consistent potty schedule and plenty of positive reinforcement.
She does, however, do very well in her kennel. She sleeps comfortably in her kennel overnight and doesn't mind being placed there when needed.
Lola LOVES toys, and she has a clear favorite:
Lamb Chop!
Her Lamb Chop toy is her absolute favorite and is sure to be an important member of the household.
Lola can be shy around new people. She may initially hang back and need some time to decide that you're safe. But once she trusts you? Get ready for the cuddles! Lola becomes incredibly sweet and affectionate once she comes out of her shell. One of the most rewarding things about her is watching her transformation from a reserved puppy into a playful, silly, loving little companion.
If Lola has a favorite activity besides zoomies and cuddling, it might just be going for a ride! She loves car rides and is an easy passenger. Once she's in the car, she settles down, sits back, relaxes, or lays down for a nap. She seems to genuinely enjoy tagging along for adventures.
Lola's zoomies are absolutely hilarious. She can go from quietly hanging out to racing around with all the enthusiasm of a puppy who has just discovered she has four legs.
Lola would thrive in an active, patient, and loving home where her family wants to spend time with her and help her grow into the confident adult dog she is meant to be. She would love a family that enjoys walks, playtime, adventures, training, and plenty of quality time together. A home with another friendly, well-socialized dog could be a wonderful option, although she does not absolutely require a canine companion.
Her ideal family will understand that Lola may not immediately run up and introduce herself to everyone. They will give her the opportunity to warm up at her own pace rather than expecting instant confidence.
Please note our process starts with an application. If we think you might be a good fit, we will reach out to coordinate a phone interview. This is followed by a video call with the foster home. Virtual home visit, personal and vet reference checks are required to complete the process. Transport is included in our adoption donation.
