We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog.
June, 2 years old, spayed female, Pitbull mix, 57 pounds. She is in a foster home in Houston, Texas and able to transport once an adopter is approved.
If you’re looking for a dog who is sweet, silly, affectionate, curious, and always ready for an adventure, meet June! This lovable girl is full of puppy energy and has a personality that is impossible not to adore.
June is a high-energy, playful girl who loves romping around with her canine friends. She currently lives with two resident dogs and another foster dog and has fit right into the pack. She is especially good at watching the other dogs, learning from them, and adapting to their behavior. She is playful and rambunctious but also does a good job recognizing when another dog has had enough. It may take her a minute to realize playtime is over, but once she gets the message, she happily moves on and does her own thing.
She has played with dogs in the 55–75-pound range and has done very well. She is more submissive with other dogs and genuinely enjoys having canine friends. She could be happy in a home with another dog or as your one-and-only, as long as she gets plenty of exercise, attention, and enrichment.
June gets pretty excited when she sees other dogs while on leash, resulting in some friendly pulling and a very enthusiastic, wagging tail. Overall, though, she is a good leash walker who is curious without being overly reactive. She could use a little continued leash and manners training, but she is a smart girl and a pretty good listener.
And while June has plenty of energy, she has an equally affectionate side. She loves to cuddle and absolutely melts for belly scratches. She enjoys toys, playing with her people, and being part of whatever is happening. She is the kind of dog who can go from zooming around the yard to snuggling up with you afterward.
June is also a total goofball. One of her cutest features is her silly little overbite. When she eats, her gums sometimes flap a little, and it is ridiculously adorable.
June has been great in the house and is essentially house-trained, although she has had an occasional accident. She is comfortable in her crate and sleeps there at night, as well as staying crated when her foster family is away. During the day, she should be crated for only a few hours at a time, and ideally no more than about 4–5 hours.
She is still learning that being alone doesn't mean it's time to redecorate. June is not quite ready for free rein of the house when left alone. When bored or anxious, she may chew or rip things up, so her adoptive family will need to continue working on gradually increasing her independence and providing appropriate outlets for her energy.
June is very food motivated and eats like she's afraid someone might tell her the buffet is closing! In the beginning, she should be fed separately from other dogs because she may try to help herself to their meals. She has shown no issues with people around her food and has no concerns with toys, bones, or treats.
She has also been working on her manners. June sometimes likes to gently nibble on hands during play and can jump when she gets excited. Her foster family has been working on both, and she has already made noticeable progress. She will do best with someone who understands that young, energetic dogs need consistency, patience, structure, and positive reinforcement.
When meeting new people, June may initially be curious and bark a little from a distance. Once she gets closer, however, she becomes friendly and excited and may greet people with some enthusiastic jumping. She is very good in the car and has conquered her initial skepticism about stairs.
June has not yet been tested with cats or children, so those situations are unknown. Because of her size, strength, energy, and tendency to jump when excited, we feel she would be best suited for a home with children ages 12+ or an adult-only home. This recommendation is based entirely on her exuberant puppy energy—not aggression. June has shown no aggression whatsoever and is an incredibly sweet and gentle dog.
June's Perfect Match
She is not likely to be a great apartment dog. She has a lot of energy and would love a home where she can get plenty of physical activity and opportunities to play. A fenced yard would be a wonderful bonus, but what she really needs is an involved person who will make her part of their daily life.
June is smart, adaptable, affectionate, and eager to learn. She watches the dogs around her and quickly picks up on their routines and behavior. She has seamlessly joined her foster family's pack and has shown just how adaptable she can be.
Most importantly, June is an absolute sweetheart. She has a huge heart, a silly personality, and a whole lot of love to give. If you're looking for a playful adventure buddy who will also happily curl up beside you for belly scratches, June might just be your girl.
Please note our process starts with an application. If we think you might be a good fit, we will reach out to coordinate a phone interview. This is followed by a video call with the foster home. Virtual home visit, personal and vet reference checks are required to complete the process. Transport is included in our adoption donation.
