Raven, 2.5 years old, spayed female, Retriever mix, 47 pounds. She is in a foster home in Houston, Texas.

Raven is a smart, curious, affectionate girl with a BIG personality and enough energy to keep you on your toes! She’s the kind of dog who makes life more fun—and she’s looking for an active person or family who is ready to help her become the amazing dog we know she can be.

Raven LOVES to play, and when she gets going, she gets going! She has enjoyed playing with dogs around 66–70 lbs and brings plenty of enthusiasm to her doggy friendships. She is able to pick up on ques from other dogs. She does enjoy play (running around, wrestling, tug of war). When she sees dogs while out on leash, however, Raven can become overstimulated and will pull or bark. She is going to need an adopter who is committed to continuing her leash skills and helping her learn how to calmly navigate the world.

And Raven isn't just energetic—she's incredibly smart and curious. She loves toys and will happily entertain herself with her own things. Her foster describes her as "a lot of fun," and we couldn't agree more!

Raven is also a total sweetheart. Once she feels comfortable, she is affectionate and loves attention. Meeting new people can be a little scary for her. She may be fearful and bark when she's uncomfortable. She'll need someone willing to let her take her time, build trust, and learn that new people and experiences aren't so scary.

A few things Raven is still working on:

She can be destructive when left unsupervised, so she isn't currently ready to have free run of the house when alone.
She has learned the crate is a safe space for her, but may whine when first going in.
Car rides are still scary. She doesn't voluntarily get into the car yet and currently prefers to ride on the floor rather than in a seat.

Raven would LOVE a home with lots of room to run—a farm, property with land, or an active home with plenty of opportunities for exercise and enrichment would be ideal. She needs an adopter who understands she needs consistency, and the patience she deserves.

But don't let the list of things she's learning dissuade you. Raven's foster says it best: "She's a great dog, anyone would be lucky to have her."

If you're looking for a fun-loving, clever, affectionate adventure buddy and you're ready to help Raven continue becoming her best self, she may be your girl!

Please note our process starts with an application. If we think you might be a good fit, we will reach out to coordinate a phone interview. This is followed by a video call with the foster home. Virtual home visit, personal and vet reference checks are required to complete the process. Transport is included in our adoption donation.

***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. ***
