Meet Abuelo — “Welly” — The Gentle, Loyal Cuddlebug
NOTE: THIS IS AN "OUT OF TOWN PET" - that means he is not at this location but we do have transport here - more about transport below. Our Rescue is Houston based (https://www.facebook.com/TwilightTailsRescue) and all our fosters and Rescue Ranch are in and around Houston.
Some dogs take a little time to show you who they truly are. Abuelo, lovingly nicknamed Welly, has decided he’s ready — and what a wonderful boy he is.
Welly is a 42lbs Golden Retriever/Chow mix with a gentle heart, a loyal spirit, and a personality that’s equal parts sweetness and sunshine. After a rough beginning, he’s blossomed into an affectionate, playful, deeply loving dog who wants nothing more than to be close to his people.
A Sweet, Easy Companion
Welly is one of those wonderfully peaceful dogs to have around. He’s completely housetrained, sleeps quietly through the night in his dog bed, and is so calm in the home that his foster family sometimes forgets he’s there. He loves car rides, being brushed, and even sits politely for nail trims.
He’s crate trained but does beautifully outside of it — no destructive chewing, no mischief, just a good boy being a good boy.
Playful, Social, and Full of Heart
Welly enjoys:
Playing fetch
Going on walks
Wrestling with his best buddy
Chewing on toys and bones
Meeting new people on outings
He walks beautifully on a leash and is still working on his off-leash listening skills. He gets along great with other dogs, big and small. With cats, he’s adorable — initially unsure, now perfectly comfortable with his four cat foster siblings.
He has also been gentle and sweet with his foster’s 2 year old niece.
Personality & Home Life
Welly is affectionate, loyal, and happiest when he’s close to his people. Cuddles, head scratches, and companionship are his love language. He’s obedient, well-mannered, and genuinely enjoys being part of whatever his family is doing.
He’s a big foodie — breakfast and dinner are major events in his day. His only real fear is thunderstorms and fireworks, which sometimes require a little TLC and extra scratches or massages to help him relax.
A Truly Wonderful Dog
There’s nothing complicated about Welly. He’s gentle, loving, playful, and full of personality. He’s the kind of dog who finally has the chance to live the life he always deserved.
Welly is just finishing up his heartworm treatment and is doing wonderfully. He’ll be fully cleared and ready for normal activity again within about two weeks. His recovery has been smooth, and he’s expected to be completely fine.
Whoever brings Welly home isn’t rescuing a problem dog.
They’re welcoming a really, really good dog — one who will give back every ounce of love he’s given.
Welly is neutered, microchipped & vaccinated and would benefit from being adopted by a dog-loving person who understands he has so much to offer but will need a little time to adjust and settle in with his new family.

Understanding transport: Once everything is all approved, dogs are scheduled on transport using AJC Rescue & Transport (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100083418067425). Transport means dogs are carefully and thoughtfully moved via scheduled air conditioned/heated vans from our doggy ranch in Fulshear, TX to a location near you. Each transport consists of a team of two drivers who can alternate. This is how we communicate in real time. The driver who is not driving, will be updating the group chat. You will be included in this group chat to track your dog through transport. You will also be given exact location and scheduled time of arrival. Our drivers do everything possible to run on-time however, things such as traffic, weather etc. can affect arrival time. You will updated regarding delays or possible early arrival. Keep in mind, dogs on transport stop for bathroom, walk and food breaks. For safety, all dogs are crated during transport.
We use what we think is the best dog transport service in the region and have for years - Andrea and her crew really offer first class transport!
