Meet Gage — Learning What Home Is

For eight months, Gage thought he knew what “home” meant.
Home was where his people were. Home was where he slept at night. Home was where someone filled his bowl and told him he was a good boy.
And then one day, his people were gone.
Gage’s family was deported, and this sweet little puppy was left behind. A kind neighbor stepped in to care for him, but Gage didn’t understand what had happened. He became very quiet. He wasn’t angry. He wasn’t aggressive.
He just didn’t seem happy.
Now Gage has another chance to learn what home means.
Gage is an 8-month-old Border Terrier/Miniature Schnauzer mix weighing about 12 pounds. We don’t know anything about his mom or dad, so exactly what went into making this adorable little guy will always be a bit of a mystery.
What we do know is his personality.
And this boy is suuuuper sweet.
Gage is gentle, affectionate and snuggly. He loves his stuffies—not to destroy them, but to play with them and even curl up and sleep beside them. Give him a stuffed friend and a comfortable place to lie down, and Gage is a pretty content little fellow.
Outside, though, another Gage appears.
ZOOM!
He loves going outdoors, stretching those little legs and getting a good case of the zoomies. Then, when the fun is over, he comes back inside and settles beautifully.
Gage is still working on his house training, but he does well with potty pads. He’s a smart little guy who learns quickly, and with patience and consistency, we think he’ll catch on just fine.
He is healthy and vaccinated and will soon be neutered and microchipped.
Mostly, Gage needs something he once had and unexpectedly lost:
a family.
A family that won’t disappear.
A family that will give him time to understand that he is safe.
A family with room for a 12-pound puppy, a few beloved stuffies, some occasional zoomies and an enormous amount of cuddling.
Gage has already learned that sometimes life can change without warning.
Now we’d like to teach him something much better.
Sometimes home really does mean forever.

Understanding transport: Once everything is all approved, dogs are scheduled on transport using AJC Rescue & Transport (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100083418067425). Transport means dogs are carefully and thoughtfully moved via scheduled air conditioned/heated vans from our doggy ranch in Fulshear, TX to a location near you. Each transport consists of a team of two drivers who can alternate. This is how we communicate in real time. The driver who is not driving, will be updating the group chat. You will be included in this group chat to track your dog through transport. You will also be given exact location and scheduled time of arrival. Our drivers do everything possible to run on-time however, things such as traffic, weather etc. can affect arrival time. You will updated regarding delays or possible early arrival. Keep in mind, dogs on transport stop for bathroom, walk and food breaks. For safety, all dogs are crated during transport.

We use what we think is the best dog transport service in the region and have for years - Andrea and her crew really offer first class transport!

The Border Terrier is a small, fearless, and affectionate breed known for their devotion to their families. With a wiry, weather resistant coat and an otter like head, they were originally bred for hunting foxes and vermin along the Scottish border. These energetic and intelligent dogs excel in various canine activities, including agility and obedience. Their friendly and playful demeanor makes them wonderful companions for active families, especially those who enjoy outdoor adventures with their loyal four legged friends.
