Meet Carter — Part-Time Cuddle Bug, Full-Time Food Critic!
NOTE: Carter is an "OUT OF TOWN PET" - meaning he is not at this location, but we do have transport here - more about transport below. Our Rescue is Houston, TX based and all our fosters and Rescue are in and around Houston.
Introducing Carter, an adorable 12-week-old Havanese/Yorkie mix weighing approximately 8 pounds. And he’s proud of every ounce! With his silky coat, partial blue eyes, and confident little stance, this boy is as charming as he is cuddly.
Estimated adult weight: around 16 lbs — the perfect size for a lap companion who can still keep up on walks.
He’s the most outgoing of his litter, first to the food bowl (which explains his extra two pounds!) and always ready for playtime. Carter loves toys, knows his name, and happily snuggles in your lap when it’s time to wind down. He’s crate-trained, working on potty skills, and gets along wonderfully with our adult dogs.
His specialty? Checking the adult dogs’ food bowls for leftovers.
He takes this responsibility VERY seriously. If the big dogs don’t finish their dinner, don’t worry—this little guy is happy to step in. Nothing goes to waste on his watch.
He’s also a professional squeaky-toy musician. Give him a squeaky toy and he will immediately begin composing his next masterpiece:
SQUEAK. SQUEAK. SQUEAK. SQUEAK.
And then, just when you think the concert is over... SQUEAK.
He may need his own recording contract!
When he’s not conducting the orchestra or inspecting everyone’s dinner, he’s busy being playful, curious, confident and incredibly inquisitive. Of all his littermates, he is definitely the boldest little adventurer. He wants to know what’s going on, where everyone is going, and whether there might possibly be food involved.
He’s also a very smart and observant puppy. When he settles down in his foster mom’s lap, he has this adorable habit of staring right into her eyes, as if he’s trying to have a serious heart-to-heart conversation. We haven’t figured out exactly what he’s thinking, but we’re pretty sure it involves snacks.
And then there are his dreams...
This boy is a SERIOUS sleeper. He loves sleeping on his back, with his little feet moving a mile a minute and occasionally letting out tiny puppy barks. We have no idea what he’s dreaming about, but judging by the foot action, he’s either chasing squirrels or winning the puppy Olympics.
He’s dog-friendly and enjoys having canine friends around. He hasn’t met a cat yet, so we can’t promise he’ll be a cat guy—but given his social and playful personality, we wouldn’t be surprised if he thought a cat was just another potential playmate.
His potty training is still a work in progress, because he’s a puppy and apparently hasn’t yet read the chapter on proper bathroom etiquette. The good news is that he’s doing very well with potty pads, so he’s definitely headed in the right direction.
Because he is still a small puppy, we are looking for a home without very young children. His size makes him vulnerable to being accidentally stepped on, dropped, or injured by little ones who may not yet understand how gently a puppy needs to be handled. Older, respectful children would be considered.
This little guy is confident, clever, affectionate, hilarious and full of personality. He’ll keep you entertained with his squeaky concerts, make you laugh with his food-bowl missions, melt your heart when he stares into your eyes, and occasionally perform a full-body interpretive dance in his sleep.
In other words... he’s kind of a big deal in an 8-pound package.

The Details:
Carter will be microchipped & has his age-appropriate vaccinations and will need to be neutered by his adopter before he is 1 year old. You will receive a $100 rebate once that is done. He would benefit from being adopted by a dog-loving person who understands he has so much to offer but will need a little time to adjust and settle in with his new family.

Currently this dog is being fostered at our Rescue Ranch near Houston, TX but can be brought close to your home on rescue transport which comes through your area once a month. Transport info below.
Adoption fee is $525 plus $30 for a health certificate and $260 for transport.

Understanding transport: Once everything is all approved, dogs are scheduled on transport using AJC Rescue & Transport (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100083418067425). Transport means dogs are carefully and thoughtfully moved via scheduled air conditioned/heated vans from our doggy ranch in Fulshear, TX to a location near you. Each transport consists of a team of two drivers who can alternate. This is how we communicate in real time. The driver who is not driving, will be updating the group chat. You will be included in this group chat to track your dog through transport. You will also be given exact location and scheduled time of arrival. Our drivers do everything possible to run on-time however, things such as traffic, weather etc. can affect arrival time. You will updated regarding delays or possible early arrival. Keep in mind, dogs on transport stop for bathroom, walk and food breaks. For safety, all dogs are crated during transport.
