Hiccup came off the streets of downtown Chicago missing his right foot and running out of time. The foot didn't come back, but everything else did. His stump healed clean, and these days he stands on one good foot with the calm of a bird who considers the matter settled.
The Hiccup of How to Train Your Dragon also ends his big story down one foot, and it never once makes him smaller; he's the one who watches, thinks, and figures out what everyone else missed. This Hiccup lost the opposite foot, but he’s every bit as brave, observant, and thoughtful as his namesake.
He's a handsome blue bar, with slate head and neck feathers that throw green and teal when the light hits, a pale grey wing shield with two crisp bars, and a bright white cere sitting above his beak like a little smear of chalk. Susan, his foster mom, calls him "alert and chunky," and his photos back her up on both counts.
His favorite thing is the window. He'll settle in on the couch and watch Chicago happen out there for long stretches, perfectly content to observe it from a safe distance now. He's also excellent about his pigeon pants!
What he needs is simple: soft places to rest that one foot, and life strictly indoors. If you have a couch, a window worth watching, and room for a chunky one-footed Viking who'd like to spend his retirement supervising the neighborhood, Hiccup is waiting for you!
