Bullseye - Pigeon Bird for Adoption in Chicago, Illinois

BULLSEYE

Pigeon
🇺🇸
Chicago, Illinois
August 28th
male, small, adult

DESCRIPTION

Bullseye survived something almost no bird does. He was found as the sole survivor of a flock that had been shot out of the sky — the only one still alive, badly hurt, and holding on. The gunshot damage to his right wing was too severe to save, and the wing had to be amputated. For a creature built around flight, that's as fundamental a loss as there is. Bullseye met it with a steadiness that's genuinely humbling. He has learned his body all over again — how to get around, how to balance, how to be a pigeon on his own new terms — and he's done it without losing the gentle, unhurried nature that carried him through the worst day of his life. There's no bitterness in this bird. Only a quiet, remarkable resilience.

Because he can't fly, Bullseye needs a life built close to the ground: everything at floor level, no high perches, nothing tall he could try to reach and fall from, and soft, secure footing under him. A flighted bird who falls can catch himself. Bullseye can't, so his world simply needs to stay low and safe. Set up that way, he manages beautifully and asks for very little.

For the record, he's a striking one, too — deep charcoal and slate, a chest and neck that flash brilliant green and violet in the light, and a scatter of crisp white flecks down his flanks like the last of the snow. A handsome bird who has been through the unthinkable and came out the other side still soft.

What Bullseye is looking for now is the thing he may never really have had: somewhere safe. A calm, patient home, close to the ground, with a person willing to meet him where he is. He's already shown he knows how to survive. What he deserves now is the far gentler job of simply being loved — and after everything, he's more than ready to let someone try.
