DESCRIPTION

Meet Guava Mint: racing survivor, retired athlete, and — we're fairly sure — a self-taught Airbending master.

Here's her cover story. Guava was a racing pigeon, bred to be carried far from home and released to fly back through wind and weather and worse, the way racers are, whether it suits them or not. Plenty don't make it. Guava did, and somewhere along the way she seems to have decided that flying at someone else's command was beneath her, and quit to pursue a higher calling. That's the version she'd like you to believe, anyway, and honestly the evidence is on her side.

Because look at those markings. She's a soft dove-grey with two bold black bars sweeping across each wing, a small crisp arrow of white above her beak, and a throat that flares brilliant green when the light hits it. The wing bars sit exactly where an Air Nomad's tattoos would go. We're not saying she trained in secret at a mountain temple. We're saying we can't prove she didn't, and we're not brave enough to ask her to demonstrate.

Under the mythology, though, Guava is simply a tough little bird who's been through the wringer and come out the far side ready for peace. Her racing days are behind her. What she wants now is the unglamorous good life: somewhere safe and calm to settle, someone to spoil her rotten, and the occasional quiet afternoon to practice her craft where nobody's timing her.

This tiny Air Nomad has mastered the wind and retired the racing bands. All she's missing is her next home — a permanent one, with a person worthy of a certified master. Applicants should come in peace. She controls the air in there now.
