DESCRIPTION

Hi, my name is Steve! Here is what would work best for me in my new home:

-Personality: Active, curious, intelligent
-Lifespan: 7 - 15 years
-Can Live With Kids: Yes, but an adult must be the primary caregiver
-Experienced Bird Home: Yes, I will need to be adopted into a home with other parakeets. We are flock birds and should never live alone.
-Can Live With Other Birds: Yes, parakeets are naturally flock birds and should never live alone. If there are no other birds in the home, Steve will need to be adopted with at least one friend.
-Additional information:
Meet Steve, an active parakeet who is looking for his forever home! Steve came to the shelter as a stray, so we don't know much about his past. What we do know is he should not have been found outside, so we want to make sure his new home is more responsible. Steve is a singleton parakeet and will therefore need to be adopted into a home that already has parakeets. If there are no parakeets in the home, he will need to be adopted with a buddy (if we have another parakeet available).

Steve will need a nice roomy cage with different levels and perches as well as toys, swings and cuttlebone to keep his beak trimmed. He will need plenty of birdseed - being careful not to leave a bowl full of empty seeds. Parakeet favorite fruit treats include apples, pears, melon, kiwi, berries, grapes and oranges. Parakeets are social and need to live in pairs or flocks. Parakeets are intelligent creatures capable of picking up speech, becoming finger trained and so much more!

If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
