We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog.
Cody, 4 years old, neutered male, Jack Russell Terrier mix, 24 pounds. He is in a foster home in Houston, Texas.
Cody is the kind of dog who somehow manages to be young and playful, chill and easygoing, cuddly yet independent, and perfectly happy to entertain himself. At about 25 pounds, he is the perfect size: small enough to be your snuggle buddy but big enough to be a sturdy, independent little guy. And best of all? Cody is fully housebroken and trustworthy when left loose in the house.
Cody is wonderful with other dogs and has been around dogs of all sizes, ages, breeds, and genders. He genuinely seems to love everyone. He may be a little shy when entering a new environment, but don't let that fool you—it doesn't last long. Once Cody realizes he's safe and gets his bearings, he comes right out of his shell and makes sure everyone knows he's there. He's been around young adults, older folks, big dogs, little dogs, younger dogs, senior dogs, boys, and girls, and he has happily made friends with them all.
He would love having another dog in his forever home, but it's not a requirement. Cody is perfectly capable of being your one-and-only, too. Someone who is home more often than they're away would be a bonus, but Cody has experience with the working-life schedule. His foster mom has kenneled him for up to 11 hours while she was at work, so this little guy knows what it's like to be the child of a corporate baddie mommy.
Cody is crate trained, although he would like to formally appeal the necessity of this arrangement. He seems to believe that if you're home, there is absolutely no reason he should have to be in a crate when he could instead be near you. He's also a professional bed sleeper. In fact, he has mastered the remarkable ability to turn a king-size bed into approximately six inches of usable space. How a 25-pound Terrier manages to become the heaviest object a Woman of a Certain Age will lift all day remains one of life's great mysteries.
Cody loves mealtime and has not shown any resource guarding or food possessiveness. He's happy to share toys and treats with his canine friends. He does, however, believe strongly in the concept of "waste not, want not" and may casually circle the waters waiting for a slower eater to finish so he can perform quality-control duties on their bowl.
He knows how to use a doggy door and enjoys the finer things in life. Cody will happily spend some time outside sunning himself in the warm Texas late-summer sun before coming inside to find the coolest possible spot, preferably somewhere involving 509-thread-count bamboo sheets, a ceiling fan, and the AC set to a luxurious 72 degrees. He's not spoiled. He simply has standards.
Cody has not been around cats or children in his foster home, so those relationships are still unknown. We think he could potentially do well with respectful children with proper supervision—especially since his new family may need to teach the kiddos that Cody's snacks are, in fact, Cody's snacks. He could also potentially live with cats with slow, appropriate introductions. Cody is fundamentally a bit of a barker, so a feline roommate would need to be comfortable with his occasional commentary.
At the heart of it, Cody is just an incredibly lovable little guy. He's friendly, adaptable, housebroken, dog-social, and perfectly content to be your companion. He'll sunbathe with you, follow you around the house, supervise dinner, steal approximately 90% of your bed, and remind you that life is better when there's a dog in it.

Please note our process starts with an application. If we think you might be a good fit, we will reach out to coordinate a phone interview. This is followed by a video call with the foster home. Virtual home visit, personal and vet reference checks are required to complete the process. Transport is included in our adoption donation.
