Introducing Wake—because apparently eight pounds of questionable genetics, golden fluff, and concentrated sweetness was exactly what your self-control did not need today. Wake is a 6-week-old, 8-pound male Golden Retriever mix—or at least that is what Rescue Math has decided for the moment. Yes, we know that half of you have already emotionally adopted him before finishing the first sentence, and the other half are currently showing his picture to your spouse while casually asking, “Would you be mad if...?” But before you let your heart sign you up for another dog without consulting your household, your budget, or amount of couch space left, we need to have a brief discussion about Rescue Math. Rescue Math says Wake is a Golden Retriever mix because...well, he looks like one. However, his coat is beginning to suggest that he may also have inherited a little Doodle. Yes, we realize that mentioning the possibility of a fluffy, scruffy Golden-Doodle-ish mystery puppy probably did absolutely nothing to strengthen your resolve. Honestly, that sounds like a personal problem. We also do not know Wake’s parents, which means we cannot provide an exact breed, adult size, or birthdate. Wake and his siblings were brought to the shelter after being found, and the shelter estimated them to be around three weeks old at the time. That would make them approximately six weeks old now, although our veterinarian believes they may actually be closer to eight weeks. Apparently, even Wake himself does not have access to his original paperwork. Very irresponsible if you ask us but when you are as cute as Wake you can get away with anything. So, if you love dogs and do not care whether Wake grows into a 45-pound Golden-ish gentleman, a 70-pound scruffy house pony, or something in between, please continue. If you need a guaranteed breed, precise birthday, or exact adult weight, Wake respectfully recommends that you keep scrolling. He is a mystery novel, not a spreadsheet. Rescue Math is largely the process of judging a book by its fluffy little cover, making an educated guess about what may be inside, and hoping someone opens it anyway and falls hopelessly in love.

Wake believes other dogs were placed on this earth for two very specific purposes: playing with him and serving as personal pillows once playing has concluded. Size, age, and whether the other dog previously agreed to these terms are minor administrative details. In Wake’s mind, every canine is simply a future wrestling partner with an excellent nap surface attached. He loves romping with his siblings, tumbling around in the deeply uncoordinated manner of puppies whose feet have not yet received instructions from the brain, and then collapsing directly on top of whichever sibling is warmest. He may be consistently tied for the smallest of the litter, but Wake holds his own just fine. He is tiny, not fragile. Cats have not submitted an official review yet, but Wake would probably be delighted by their lifestyle. Cats sleep for approximately seventeen hours a day, occasionally wake up to eat, and then return to bed as though surviving breakfast was physically exhausting. Wake finds this schedule both reasonable and inspirational. He would likely view a cat as a sophisticated nap consultant—and possibly an unusually pointy sibling capable of enforcing personal boundaries. Wake loves children. His current approach to kids is the same one he applies to nearly everything else: play for a while, provide several ounces of enthusiastic puppy nonsense, and then locate the nearest available lap for an immediate system shutdown. He is affectionate, social, and wonderfully snuggly, but he is still a puppy. That means his interactions may include tiny teeth, miniature zoomies, and the occasional attempt to determine whether shoelaces are legally considered toys. Children should be comfortable with normal puppy behavior and understand that Wake is a baby—not a stuffed animal who has mysteriously gained mobility.
Wake currently rates around a 4 out of 10 on the energy scale. He enjoys a good romp with his siblings and absolutely participates in the ancient puppy tradition of using his mouth to investigate everything, including his siblings, toys, fingers, clothing, and probably the fabric of reality itself. Of all five siblings, Wake is probably the snuggliest. If he is not falling asleep in someone’s arms, he is curled against a sibling or wrapped around a stuffed animal like a tiny Victorian child clutching his most treasured possession. His preferred method of recharging involves direct physical contact with another living creature—or at least something soft enough to pretend. Wake does not merely enjoy cuddling; he treats it as a serious professional responsibility. If there is an empty lap, an unoccupied arm, or a sibling who made the tactical error of lying down nearby, Wake will handle the situation.
Since Wake is still very young, his future family should expect all the usual puppy projects: potty training, kennel training, leash training, puppy-proofing, socialization, basic manners, and repeatedly explaining why human hands are not complimentary teething rings. He is not arriving as a finished product with factory-installed obedience. He is arriving as a tiny, sleepy work in progress whose résumé currently lists “excellent cuddler,” “enthusiastic sibling wrestler,” and “can fall asleep almost anywhere.” Wake’s ideal home is one prepared for the wonderfully ridiculous reality of raising a very young puppy. He needs patient people who will guide him through training, continue his socialization, survive the needle-tooth stage with their sense of humor intact, and make room in their arms for a puppy who considers snuggling a basic survival requirement. Another friendly dog could be a wonderful companion, playmate, and—most importantly—personal pillow, although Wake would also be perfectly happy receiving an unreasonable amount of attention directly from his humans.

Wake is extremely adorable, but unfortunately, adorableness has not yet replaced our adoption process.
Once your application is submitted, we can send it to Wake’s foster family so they can decide whether you are prepared to become his permanent playmate, snack provider, teething-stage supervisor, and deluxe human mattress. If approved, you will need to pick Wake up in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. He will not be transported, shipped, delivered, placed in the mail, passed through a drive-thru window, or sent to you aboard a tiny golden chariot pulled by squirrels. You must come collect your own warm dinner roll in person.
