Introducing Anchor, a 6-week-old, 8-pound male Golden Retriever mix who looks like someone crossed a toasted marshmallow with a dust bunny and then gave it tiny legs. He is sweet enough to give a bakery an inferiority complex, gentle enough to make a lullaby seem unnecessarily aggressive, and currently weighs about as much as a moderately ambitious watermelon. His face could dissolve even the strongest resolve, and his overall temperament is best described as “tiny, tenderhearted gentleman who has absolutely no idea what a bad day is.” Now, before everyone says, “Awwww, I want him!”...oh, who are we kidding? That already happened somewhere around “toasted marshmallow.” Half of you have emotionally adopted him, renamed him, and ordered a personalized collar. However, before you let your heart sign you up for another dog while your common sense is still trying to unlock its phone, we need to have a brief discussion about rescue math. Rescue math says Anchor is a Golden Retriever mix because...well, he looks like one. He is golden. He is fluffy. He has the sweet little face of someone who would retrieve absolutely nothing but would happily supervise while you did it. We do not know who Anchor’s parents are, which means we cannot promise his exact breed, adult size, or precise birthday. He and his siblings were brought to the shelter after being found, and the shelter estimated that they were around three weeks old at the time. That would make them approximately six weeks old now. However, our veterinarian believes they may be closer to eight weeks old, because puppies apparently arrive without instruction manuals, birth certificates, or the decency to provide accurate family records. If you simply love dogs and do not care whether Anchor is exactly six weeks old, precisely eight weeks old, definitely Golden, possibly Doodle, medium-sized, large, fluffy, scruffy, or secretly three woodland creatures sharing one puppy costume, then please continue on with Anchor. Anchor loves snuggles and is perfectly happy to curl up with his people like a warm, fuzzy dinner roll—right up until he hears food being prepared. At that point, the tender bonding moment is over, your relationship has been placed on a brief administrative hold, and Anchor is reporting directly to the cafeteria. This boy loves his groceries. He does not merely enjoy a meal; he approaches dining with the focus of a tiny food critic who has been waiting six exhausting weeks for his reservation. You may believe you are the center of his universe, but if someone opens a bag of kibble, you will quickly discover that you are actually a small moon orbiting his true love: snacks. He will leave your arms so fast you may briefly wonder whether you imagined the entire cuddle. Do not take it personally. Affection is wonderful, but dinner has a schedule. When food is not actively requesting his attention, Anchor is an affectionate little roly-poly who loves being close to his people. He is soft, sweet, cuddly, and currently shaped like a fuzzy baked potato that has begun sprouting legs. He gives off the peaceful energy of a baby who assumes the world exists solely to provide warm laps, friendly faces, and regularly scheduled groceries. He is still very young, so much of his personality is only beginning to emerge, but thus far, Anchor appears to be a cheerful, people-loving little guy with an excellent temperament and absolutely no intention of missing a meal.
Anchor believes every dog is his friend because he is a puppy and has not yet been introduced to the complicated adult concepts of boundaries, social hesitation, or “perhaps that dog does not want you sitting on its head.” In his world, other dogs are simply future playmates who have not completed the friendship paperwork yet. He happily romps with his siblings and is delighted by anyone else who enters the puppy room. There is no lengthy interview process, no suspicious background check, and no awkward period of wondering whether everyone will get along. Anchor sees a dog, assumes friendship, and immediately begins planning group activities. Cats remain an unanswered question. Anchor has not been around them, so we cannot say whether he would consider a cat a friend, a supervisor, a particularly judgmental roommate, or a mysterious creature whose tail should be investigated despite multiple written warnings. We refuse to manufacture a glowing cat résumé for a puppy who has never met one. Rescue bios may contain jokes, but they should not contain fan fiction. Anchor has met children once, and naturally, he loved all the attention. A room full of people eager to admire him is exactly the sort of event Anchor believes should occur daily. He was happy to accept the affection, compliments, and general celebration of his existence—as any tiny celebrity would. Since he is still a very young puppy, any children in his forever home should be prepared for the usual puppy nonsense as he grows: little teeth, enthusiastic feet, questionable decisions, and the firm belief that anything located at floor level may have been placed there for him personally.
His current energy level is around a 4 out of 10. That does not mean Anchor intends to spend adulthood quietly arranging throw pillows and listening to public radio. He is still a very young puppy, and his energy, interests, and level of goofiness will continue developing as he does. Right now, however, he is not operating like a wind-up toy possessed by the spirit of poor decisions. He happily romps with his siblings and enthusiastically greets anyone who enters the room, but his excitement is the sweet “Oh my goodness, you’re here!” variety—not the “I have consumed six energy drinks and must now scale the curtains” variety. He has happy-to-see-you energy. His entire little body joins the welcome committee, and he is prepared to celebrate your arrival as though you just returned from a dangerous three-year expedition rather than stepping out of the room for twelve seconds. He will play, wobble, romp, tumble over a sibling, recover with absolutely no dignity, and then eventually remember that babies require naps. Anchor is currently less of a high-performance athlete and more of a cheerful beanbag with brief recreational goals.
Anchor is still at the very beginning of becoming whoever he is going to be. He is affectionate, social, food-motivated, happily playful, and currently quite manageable on the energy scale—but he is also a baby whose personality, coat, size, and habits will continue unfolding. Adopting him means signing up for the whole puppy experience: the snuggles, the laughter, the early mornings, the training, the tiny teeth, the accidents, the mysteriously relocated socks, and the humbling realization that an eight-pound fuzzball can reorganize your entire household before breakfast. He does not arrive fully programmed with your household routine, Wi-Fi password, and preferred coffee time already installed. There may be interrupted sleep. There will be potty training. There will be moments when you stand outside in your pajamas praising a puppy for peeing while wondering how this became your life.

If approved, you will need to pick Anchor up in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. He will not be transported, shipped, delivered to your driveway, placed on a commercial flight, launched from a puppy catapult, or sent through the mail with air holes and a snack. You must come meet him and pick him up in person.
