Meet Sweetie

Sweetie is a 9-year-old, 10-pound Chihuahua whose name is almost suspiciously accurate. There was apparently no attempt at irony.

She is a serious lap dog, an accomplished nighttime cuddler, dog friendly, good on leash, and reliably potty trained so far with no accidents in the house. She'd be especially happy with a quieter person or couple who is home often and appreciates having a devoted little companion nearby.

Sweetie is blind, but she has declined to make that the headline of her life. She memorizes obstacles, navigates familiar spaces beautifully, and follows her person's voice with remarkable fidelity. Once she understands the geography, she gets on with things. No melodrama. Just Sweetie, proceeding with the agenda.

And the agenda is mostly affection, preferably while wrapped in a blanket like a Chihuahua burrito. This is not a metaphor. She genuinely loves being bundled up and tucked in as though she personally commissioned the blanket.

She is happy, loving, wonderfully companionable, and does not seem interested in being treated as fragile, because she isn't. Give her a little orientation and her extraordinary internal map takes over.

Sweetie would be magnificent company for someone whose idea of a good evening involves staying home, getting comfortable, and discovering that ten pounds of Chihuahua has somehow annexed the entire lap.

All known details about our animals are posted on their profile and updated daily. Other info will be discussed in detail with the foster during the application review process. Due to the high volume of introductions/questions received we ask you to submit an application (that application can be used for any dog with Take Paws Rescue).

The adoption fee for adult dogs covers age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, spay/neuter if not yet performed, heartworm test & appropriate heartworm treatment by the rescue's vet. All dogs in our care are also kept up-to-date on HW/Flea Prevention.

***Take Paws Rescue, based in New Orleans, saves dogs from high-kill shelters across the South, owner surrenders, and discarded dogs with uncertain futures.
