One day, Humberto’s finders glanced out their window, as they would any other day, and took inventory of the patrons loitering at their bird feeder. At first, nothing was out of the ordinary, with their standard clientele present and accounted for: robins, house finches, crows, and the occasional squirrel. On a second glance, however, they noticed someone different: a tiny, white, and somewhat confused pigeon who looked a little worse for wear, with bald patches on their head and neck. Instantly recognizing this little bird needed help, they contacted GLPR, and volunteer Ren rushed over to contain him. It was then Ren realized that the poor, confused, little bird was still just a baby, possibly the victim of a ceremonial dove release.
In the time that’s passed since Humberto’s rescue, he has gotten accustomed to the cozy life of a house pigeon. He is curious, but still getting used to the idea that people are friendly. In his foster home, he loves to find high places to loaf, where he can survey his environment. He would do best in a home with calm, patient people, and is excited to have a flock of his very own!
