Fenghuang came to us with both legs mangled. His right leg couldn't be saved, and was amputated in an emergency surgery. His left leg was splinted, and it held. That's the leg you see in these photos, carrying all of him, even though most of its toes are gone too. Look at how he stands on it anyway: chest out, eyes locked on the camera, like he's daring you to mention it.
His name comes from Chinese mythology. The fenghuang is a legendary bird said to appear only in times of peace and harmony, and the old stories say it will rest on one kind of tree and no other. Our Fenghuang is particular about where he settles too, and for good reason. With one leg and very few toes, he's happiest on flat, soft ground: rugs, fleece blankets, and stable setup rather than small perches he could tumble from. That's the whole accommodation. A floor plan that meets him where he is.
And he is lovely to look at. He's a blue bar, soft dove-gray with two charcoal bars across each wing, and his neck is a shawl of green and violet that changes color every time he turns his head. He has already survived the hardest part of his story. The legend says the fenghuang only comes to rest where things are peaceful. If your home is a calm one with a soft floor to offer, he's ready to land there.
