COCOA IS SAFE IN FOSTER, BUT HE CANNOT COME BACK TO THE SHELTER
We are begging for an adopter for Cocoa.
Cocoa is safe right now. He has a foster home, people caring for him, and room to run and play. But foster care is temporary, and returning to the shelter is not an option for him. Cocoa needs someone to step forward and make the home he has been waiting for permanent.
Cocoas story began with pain. When he came to us, he had a chain embedded in his neck. A chain had been left around him long enough and tightly enough to become part of his skin. We cannot imagine everything this boy experienced before reaching us, but even after all of it, Cocoa still wanted affection. He still wanted someone to love him.
Once Cocoa entered the shelter, the physical wounds were not the only things he had to overcome. The noise, confinement, and constant activity inside the kennels became overwhelming for him. Kennel stress began hiding the real Cocoa from everyone who walked past him.
Inside a kennel, people saw a stressed and frightened dog. Outside of that kennel, we saw the affectionate boy who wanted to be close to us. We knew there was so much more to Cocoa than what the shelter environment allowed people to see.
Then someone gave Cocoa a chance and opened their home to him as a foster.
That is when we finally got to meet the real Cocoa.
Cocoa is now running and playing with multiple dogs, and he absolutely loves them. He enjoys having doggy friends and being part of a pack. This dog, who struggled so much inside the shelter, is thriving when surrounded by other dogs in a home.
And it is not only dogs that Cocoa loves. He loves the chickens too!
His foster home has shown us that Cocoa is not meant to spend his life behind kennel bars. He is meant to run through a yard with other dogs, enjoy the company of his people, and finally experience what it feels like to belong somewhere.
Cocoa is still frightened by loud noises. Because sudden sounds can scare him, he needs to remain secured with a harness whenever he is outside. He may also need medication during especially loud events to help him remain calm. He needs a family that will understand his fears, keep him safe, and give him reassurance when the world becomes a little too loud.
Cocoa does not need to be someones only dog. He is already proving how much he loves living, running, and playing with multiple dogs. A home with friendly doggy siblings may be exactly what helps him continue feeling safe and confident.
But Cocoa cannot come back to the shelter.
The kennel environment is not a place where he can successfully live again. His foster family has given him safety, happiness, and the opportunity to show everyone the wonderful dog hidden beneath all that stress. We cannot allow everything he has gained to disappear because nobody stepped forward to make him theirs.
He is safe today, but he still does not have a forever home.
Cocoa is approximately 50 pounds and is already microchipped. His adoption will also include a voucher for a Fi GPS tracker to help his new family keep him protected.
The chain is gone. The kennel is behind him. He is running with dogs, loving the chickens, and finally learning what a happy life feels like.
Now we need someone willing to make sure he never loses it.
Please do not scroll past Cocoa because he is currently safe in foster. Being safe in foster does not mean his story is finished. It only means someone gave us more time to find the person he has been waiting for.
We are begging you to share Cocoa. Talk about him. Send his story to someone with other dogs who may be looking for one more member of their family. Help us find the person who will promise him that foster care is the last temporary place he will ever have to call home.
