BELLA HAD A HOME. NOW SHE HAS A KENNEL.
BELLAS ADOPTION FEE IS $100
Lord, there are some dogs who can break your heart without making a sound, and Bella is one of them.
Bella is 6 years old and came to us as an owner surrender. One day she had a life and people she knew, and the next she was standing inside a strange kennel, surrounded by unfamiliar faces and the sound of barking dogs.
There was no way to sit Bella down and explain why her whole world had changed. There was no way to tell her she had not been forgotten or promise her that somebody would come back. All she knew was that the person and life she recognized were gone.
When Bella first arrived, she did not growl, carry on, or cause any trouble. That poor little girl simply folded herself up in the corner of her kennel and tried to disappear. She kept her head low, watched every movement around her, and looked unsure of every hand that reached toward her.
Watching her was enough to put a hurt in your heart.
But every day, Bella has shown us just how brave she is. Little by little, she started coming out of that corner. She began accepting a gentle touch, looking forward to her walks, and realizing that the people caring for her were not going to hurt her.
Now she meets us at her kennel door with her tail wagging, ready to go outside and soak up every bit of attention we will give her.
That ought to be nothing but a happy part of Bellas story, and it is, but it hurts too. A dog should never be so grateful for the ordinary kindness she should have received all along. A walk, a soft voice, and somebody stopping long enough to love on her mean the whole world to Bella.
She has shown us no problems with other dogs. When she passes them on her walks, she has shown curiosity and a little playful interest. We believe Bella could do wonderfully with a kind canine companion who could help show her that the world is not such a scary place after all.
Bella does not need somebody in a hurry. She needs a patient person who will let her settle in on her own time. She needs someone who will speak gently, celebrate every little step forward, and remind her every day that she is a good girl.
More than anything, Bella needs the one thing the shelter cannot give her. She needs a home that will not disappear.
She needs a soft bed, a quiet place to rest, and somebody who means it when they say, Youre home now, baby girl.
Being surrendered should not be the end of Bellas story. Somewhere out there is a family who can turn the saddest chapter of her life into the beginning of something beautiful.
Please do not let this sweet girl keep waiting behind a kennel door. If you cannot adopt Bella, please share her. One share may be what carries her picture to the person whose heart and home have been waiting for her.
