Toby, 3.5 months (Estimated DOB March 2026), male, Terrier/Chihuahua mix, currently 14 pounds and will continue to grow. He is in a foster home in HOUSTON, TEXAS.
Toby was one of 80 dogs brought to the local shelter in Houston due to a hoarding situation. We had a foster home available to give him a place to crash!
Toby absolutely loves other dogs and has quickly become everyone's friend. His favorite companion is the resident senior female dog in his foster home, and it's not unusual to find him curled up right on top of her for a nap. It's one of the sweetest sights! He also enjoys romping around with another rescued puppy and the adult dogs in the home, making him a wonderful candidate for a family with a friendly canine companion.
Like any young puppy, Toby is curious, playful, and always ready for his next adventure. Whether he's chasing toys, exploring the backyard, or bouncing around with his dog friends, he brings joy wherever he goes. When playtime is over, he's happy to snuggle up for a well-earned nap.
Toby is doing great with his potty training and is mostly potty trained, but he's still a baby and will need continued patience and consistency as he learns. He has also spent time in a crate and is continuing to build positive crate-training habits.
He currently lives with a 12-year-old child and has done wonderfully. Like any normal puppy he is energetic, and occasionally mischievous, so his new family should be prepared to continue teaching him appropriate puppy manners through positive reinforcement.
Because Toby is only 3 months old, he's looking for a family that understands the commitment of raising a puppy. Puppies thrive on routine, structure, socialization, training, and consistency. They require frequent potty breaks, supervised play, and lots of opportunities to learn about the world in a safe and positive way. The time and effort you invest now will help Toby grow into a confident, well-mannered adult dog.
Toby has not been tested with cats.
Please remember that puppies this young should not be left alone for more than about 4 hours at a time. They need companionship, frequent bathroom breaks, and guidance as they continue to develop both physically and emotionally.
If you're ready for all the fun, laughter, and love that comes with raising a puppy, Toby is ready to become your loyal sidekick. He'll reward your patience and dedication with endless cuddles, goofy puppy antics, and a lifetime of unconditional love.
Please note our process starts with an application. If we think you might be a good fit, we will reach out to coordinate a phone interview. This is followed by a video call with the foster home. Virtual home visit, personal and vet reference checks are required to complete the process. Transport is included in our adoption donation.
