DESCRIPTION

THIS DOG IS CURRENTLY LOCATED IN TEXAS. THEIR ADOPTION DONATION IS $475 AND INCLUDES TRANSPORT. PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIO, AS IT CONTAINS IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT OUR ADOPTION AND SCREENING PROCESS.

Our process begins with an application. If we believe it may be a good match, we will reach out to schedule a phone interview, followed by a video call with the foster home. A virtual home visit, along with personal and veterinary reference checks, are required to complete the adoption process. Once approved, the dog will be placed on the next available transport, which runs every few weeks and is included in the adoption donation. If you are not able to welcome a dog until a later date, please wait to apply until that time.

We are a volunteer-run rescue and donate our time to help these dogs find homes. If you are not serious about moving forward with the adoption process, please do not apply. If other people in your household are part of the decision, please make sure they are fully on board before submitting an application. This helps ensure we respect everyones time.

Rufus has the kind of face that makes you instantly want to scoop him up and tell him everything is going to be okay. With his big, soulful eyes and scruffy little face, this 2-year-old, neutered Yorkie/Lhasa Apso mix has a way of looking up at you like you're the most important person in the world. At 15 lbs, Rufus is currently underweight and is expected to be closer to 18 to 20 lbs once he's back to a healthy weight. He's being fostered in Austin, Texas and is ready to leave his difficult past behind for a family who will love him forever.

Rufus is being fostered in Austin, Texas and is available for adoption out of state. Transport can be arranged by the rescue once matched with an approved adopter. The adoption process includes an application, phone interview, video call with the foster home, virtual home visit, and vet and personal reference checks.

Before coming into rescue, Rufus was abandoned at an apartment complex and left to fend for himself for several days. Thankfully, a kind person stepped in, helped keep him safe, and networked on his behalf until rescue could take him in. Despite everything he's been through, Rufus has remained incredibly sweet, trusting, and eager to love.

Rufus is the definition of a Velcro dog. His favorite place is wherever his people are, whether that's curled up next to you on the couch, following you from room to room, or happily settling into your lap whenever the opportunity presents itself. He's affectionate, gentle, and has a happy, easygoing nature that makes him a joy to have around.

He's wonderful with other dogs of all sizes and does an excellent job respecting their space and social cues. While he enjoys canine companionship, he doesn't rely on it and would likely be just as happy as an only dog, provided he gets plenty of attention from his humans.

Rufus is fantastic on walks. He walks nicely on leash, doesn't pull, and has shown no signs of reactivity toward people or other dogs. He also rides beautifully in the car and enjoys looking out the window to watch the world go by. Whether you're heading out for errands or a weekend adventure, Rufus is happy to come along for the ride.

He's crate trained and settles quietly in his crate when needed. Like many young dogs, he still has a playful side and occasionally expresses himself with gentle puppy-style play nibbles. He's also still working on house training, though we suspect some of those challenges may improve now that he's been neutered and has a consistent routine in foster care.

Rufus has a moderate energy level and strikes a wonderful balance between enjoying walks and adventures and being perfectly content to cuddle up for a nap afterward. More than anything, Rufus loves being with his people. Whether you're working from home, watching TV, running errands, or relaxing on the couch, he'll happily be right there beside you. He's the kind of dog who forms deep bonds and simply wants to be part of the family.

As a Yorkie/Lhasa Apso mix, Rufus will likely require regular grooming to keep his coat healthy and prevent it from becoming matted or tangled. A little maintenance is a small price to pay for such a handsome guy.

Rufus' ideal home is one that wants a true companion. Someone looking for a loyal sidekick, a couch buddy, a walking partner, and a dog who will love them with his whole heart. He has been through a lot in his short life and deserves a family who will never leave him behind again.

If you're looking for a sweet, good-natured little dog with soulful eyes, a loving personality, and endless devotion to give, Rufus may be exactly who you've been waiting for.
