Meet Tater!
Sweet as can be and absolutely adorable, meet Tater!
Tater is an adorable 3–4-month-old Shih Tzu mix puppy with the cutest fluffy coat and a face that will melt your heart!
This sweet boy was surrendered to our rescue from a hoarding situation in South Texas, along with his littermates. Despite his rough start, Tater is getting a second chance at finding a loving family who will cherish him forever!
We believe Tater will stay on the smaller side, likely under 20 lbs full grown, although his exact adult size cannot be guaranteed.
Like any young puppy, Tater will need a family prepared for potty training, socialization, basic obedience training, and all the fun that comes with raising a puppy!
With his fluffy coat, Tater will also need a family committed to regular brushing and grooming to keep his fur healthy and prevent painful matting.
Tater is scheduled to arrive in Virginia on November 13th! We will have more information about his personality and temperament once he arrives and has had some time to settle into foster care.
Interested in adopting Tater?
The first step is completing an adoption application:
https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/PDAR/Dog
Adoption Fee: $650, with a $100 refund after proof of neuter.
Tater is not yet neutered, so his adopter will be required to sign a spay/neuter agreement committing to having him neutered when he is old enough. Once proof of neuter is provided, $100 of his adoption fee will be refunded.
Why Adoption Fees Matter
Most of our dogs are rescued from high-intake shelters or straight off the streets in South Texas, where packs of stray animals run loose. Your adoption fee directly covers the significant costs required to bring these dogs to safety.
We are a registered nonprofit rescue, and any funds remaining after expenses go directly toward helping animals with major medical needs who might otherwise be left behind and euthanized.
Your adoption fee covers:
Transport: Safe transport from Texas to our local foster homes, costing approximately $200 to $230 per dog.
Vetting & Preventive Care: Age-appropriate core vaccines, deworming, a heartworm test (if old enough), and microchipping. Puppies who are too young to be altered are adopted with a mandatory spay/neuter agreement.
VCA Medical Partnership: Every adoption includes a complimentary first exam at any participating VCA Animal Hospital within the first 14 days. VCA also provides limited health coverage of up to $250 for qualifying minor illnesses, such as kennel cough or ear infections, diagnosed during that initial two-week window.
Important Rescue Policies
No Foster-to-Adopt Program: We do not offer a foster-to-adopt option. The majority of our dogs are already settled into loving local foster homes, and we aim to minimize unnecessary moves for their emotional well-being. Additionally, our rescue insurance policy prohibits it.
Breed and Size Guarantees: We cannot guarantee the breed mix or adult size of any dog in our care. Listed breeds are our best guess based on physical traits and personality. Because our dogs are rescues with unknown histories, we cannot guarantee that a dog is not mixed with pit bull.
