Meet August!
With his warm tan coat, handsome black mask, and soulful brown eyes, August is a boy worth getting to know! He is approximately 1 year old and currently weighs around 45–50 lbs. His records list him as a Shepherd/Great Pyrenees mix, but despite that potential breed combination, we don’t expect him to get much bigger. He may fill out a little as he matures, although we cannot guarantee his final size. Without a DNA test, his exact breed mix remains our best guess.
August has been at the shelter since August, waiting for someone to notice the sweet dog behind the kennel door. Tan dogs can easily blend into a crowded shelter, but his caregivers want adopters to know just how much this affectionate boy has to offer.
According to shelter staff, August walks well on a leash and makes a lovely walking companion. Whether it’s a neighborhood stroll or a weekend outing, he would enjoy the chance to spend time with his people and explore beyond the shelter.
August also gets along wonderfully with other dogs. He could be a great addition to a home with a canine companion, although another dog is not required. With plenty of attention, companionship, and opportunities to socialize, he could also do well as an only dog.
One of August’s best qualities is his loving nature. Shelter staff describe him as sweet and affectionate, happiest when he is soaking up cuddles and belly rubs. He is still a young dog who will benefit from regular exercise, play, and mental enrichment, along with time to simply enjoy being close to his family.
His adopters should be prepared to give him patience and guidance as he adjusts to home life. Establishing a consistent routine and reinforcing potty training, basic obedience, and household manners as needed will help him settle in. Even a dog with a good foundation needs time to learn what is expected in a new environment.
August has not been formally tested with cats, so we cannot guarantee feline compatibility. A home with a cat may be considered with adopters prepared for gradual, supervised introductions and careful management. His exposure to children has also been limited, so older, respectful children who are comfortable around a dog of his size may be the best fit.
We would love for August to have access to a yard where he can safely play and explore. A securely fenced yard is preferred, but it is not a requirement. Apartments and condos may also be considered on a case-by-case basis, provided his family can consistently meet his exercise, training, and enrichment needs.
August needs a family committed to him for life—people who will appreciate his affectionate personality and help him continue to learn and build confidence. We believe this sweet boy has so much potential to become a cherished companion.
The shelter where August is staying is severely overcrowded, leaving wonderful dogs like him with uncertain futures simply because there is not enough space. He has already spent months waiting for his chance. We would love to see him finally trade his kennel for a comfortable home, daily walks, and all the belly rubs he has been hoping for.
Health:
August is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and on monthly preventatives. He has been tested for heartworm and is negative.
Important Information:
All of our dogs, including August, are currently located in Texas and will be transported to their adopters once the adoption is finalized. Transportation is included in the adoption fee.
Please note that adopters will not be able to meet August in person before committing, as transport occurs after the adoption has been finalized.
Breed labels are educated guesses based on appearance and available shelter or medical records. We encourage adopters to focus on each dog’s individual personality, needs, and long-term compatibility rather than breed alone.
