Meet Zues!
Meet this handsome boy, Zues! He is approximately 8–9 months old, weighs around 54 lbs., and seems to be full grown or very close to it.
Without a DNA test, we cannot confirm Zues' breed with certainty. His medical records list him as an Anatolian Shepherd, but we suspect he is more likely a mixed breed and may have some Hound, Pittie, or another breed mixed in as well. As with most rescue dogs, breed labels are simply educated guesses based on appearance and available records.
Zues was found wandering alone as a stray and was eventually picked up by animal control. Sadly, no one ever came to claim him, and he has been living in the shelter since July. He has already spent an important part of his young life growing up in a kennel, and we would love nothing more than to see him finally experience what it means to have a home and family of his own. Despite his uncertain beginning, Zues is a happy, playful young dog with so much potential.
At only 8–9 months old, he is still learning about the world and will need a patient and dedicated family committed to helping him transition from shelter life into a home. His adopter should be prepared to continue working on potty training, basic obedience, leash skills, socialization, household manners, and establishing a consistent routine.
Like most dogs his age, Zues has plenty of youthful energy and curiosity. We are looking for a family who understands the importance of continued training, appropriate socialization, mental enrichment, and regular physical activity. With consistency, patience, and guidance, we think he has all the potential to grow into an incredible companion.
Zues loves other dogs and would likely do wonderfully in a home with a canine companion who can play with him and potentially help show him the ropes. Another dog is not required, however, and he could also thrive as the only dog with a family committed to providing plenty of attention, exercise, and socialization.
He has not been formally tested with cats, so we cannot guarantee feline compatibility. A home with a cat may be considered with an adopter who understands the importance of slow, controlled introductions and proper management. Zues has also had limited exposure to children while living in the shelter. Because he is a 54-lb young dog who is still learning his manners, we think older, respectful children who are comfortable around larger, energetic dogs would likely be the best fit.
We would prefer a home with a securely fenced yard for Zues, where he would have space to safely play, explore, and burn off some of his energy. A fenced yard is not a requirement, and we are happy to consider the overall home and adopter rather than rule out an otherwise wonderful match based on fencing alone. However, given his size and activity needs, we do not feel an apartment or condo would be the best fit for him.
Zues' ideal family will understand that while he may be close to his adult size, he is still very much a young dog who has spent much of his life in a shelter. He isn't expected to arrive knowing all the rules of living in a home. He needs someone prepared to provide structure, training, enrichment, patience, and plenty of love while he adjusts to an entirely new way of life.
The shelter where Zues is currently staying is severely overcrowded, and dogs like him face uncertain futures simply because there isn't enough space. Zues has already been waiting since August. He deserves the opportunity to leave shelter life behind and start the next chapter of his life with a family who will love and support him.
Health:
Zues is neutered, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, and on monthly preventatives.
Important Information:
All of our dogs, including Zues, are currently located in Texas and will be transported to their adopters once the adoption is finalized. Transportation is included in the adoption fee. Please note that adopters will not be able to meet Zues in person prior to committing, as transport occurs after the adoption has been finalized.
