DESCRIPTION

Meet Loretta!

Before you ask, NO, she's not a senior! Those adorable gray eyebrows and that frosted little face are just her natural coloring. Loretta is only 2 years old!

At just 2 years old, Loretta has already experienced more hardship than any dog should. She was dumped in a rural Louisiana parish along with her puppies, who are now about 6 months old. We don't know what her life looked like before that, but we do know she deserved better.

Loretta has spent part of her young life raising her babies, only to find herself abandoned alongside them. Now that her puppies are growing up, it's finally her turn to be the one who's loved, protected, and cared for.

Loretta is a 44-pound mixed breed who is currently underweight and needs to put on some much-needed pounds. Despite everything, she's incredibly sweet, gets along well with other dogs and children, and is both house trained and kennel trained. Her compatibility with cats is unknown.

She's spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and although she tested positive for heartworms, her treatment is already underway.

What we want most for Loretta is something she should have had all along: a safe home, a family who won't give up on her, and the chance to spend the rest of her life knowing she's loved.

She's spent enough time taking care of others. Now it's time for someone to take care of her.

If you are interested in meeting and/or adopting, the first step is to complete an application and read all of our FAQs:

https://www.takepawsrescue.org/adopt

Please note: Information to determine if you might be a match for one of our animals can only be found on our application.
*An inquiry, questions or introduction through Petfinder is NOT an application*
All known details about our animals are posted on their profile and updated daily. Other info will be discussed in detail with the foster during the application review process. Due to the high volume of introductions/questions received we ask you to submit an application (that application can be used for any dog with Take Paws Rescue).

The adoption fee for adult dogs covers age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, spay/neuter if not yet performed, heartworm test & appropriate heartworm treatment by the rescue's vet. All dogs in our care are also kept up-to-date on HW/Flea Prevention.
For more on this, or for additional information, including the adoption process and our adoption fee scale for all our adoptable pets (including an explanation about Benefactor Dogs), please see our FAQs page:

Any breed labels used by Take Paws Rescue, its employees/volunteers, or on vet records provided cannot be guaranteed. Breed labels are given based on information obtained during intake and/or best guesses based on appearance and/or temperament of the dogs and Take Paws Rescue gives no assurance to the accuracy of these labels. Labels are necessary for postings to many animal networking sites, such as our website, Chewy, Pet Finder, and others. These are in no way a guarantee. Additionally, exact age and potential size cannot be guaranteed.

***Take Paws Rescue, based in New Orleans, saves dogs from high-kill shelters across the South, owner surrenders, and discarded dogs with uncertain futures. All of our animals live in foster homes where they are socialized and well cared for. An application will be required to make sure it's the perfect match!

ABOUT: MIXED BREED DOG BREED

The mixed breed dogs, often referred to as mutts, are a diverse and unique group with a blend of different characteristics from various purebred dog breeds. These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity. Mixed breed dogs make wonderful companions for families looking for a loyal and one-of-a-kind pet.
