This dog is currently out of state but will be transported to New England shortly with no additional travel costs. The long distance adoption process includes talking to the foster they are living with in the south. Roughly 90% of our dogs are successfully long distance adopted and 10% adopted locally.

This gentle giant is waiting for you! Meet Atlas, a 3-year-old Great Dane / Mastiff mix, weighing 100 pounds (as of 4/15/26). He was surrendered by his owner from Tennessee but knows that bigger and brighter things are ahead for him in New England! He's looking forward to calling your cozy abode home!
This handsome lad has a striking black coat (with some white on his chest) and an even bigger heart. Built like a tank but soft as a marshmallow, Atlas is the perfect blend of strength and sweetness. He's the kind of boy that will grab a guitar and serenade you with all your favorite love songs just to make you smile. No need to tip him with your money! Your eternal affection plus his favorite treats are good enough compensation.
Despite his impressive size, Atlas is a laid-back, affectionate guy who would rather lean against you for pets than show off his muscles to all the gym bros in your neighborhood. How humble! He’s also loyal to his people, great at keeping a watchful eye on the home, and is happiest when he’s close to his family. Whether he's lounging on the couch (yes, he thinks he’s lap-sized) or stretching out in the yard, Atlas will always find a way to appreciate the little things in life.
At three-years-old, he’s past the wild puppy stage but still full of playful energy when he's in the mood for some adventure. He enjoys a good romp, a sturdy chew toy, and plenty of attention so put your phone down! Unless you're recording him. He lives for the spotlight. With his soulful eyes and calm demeanor, he wins over everyone he meets (once he determines they're not a threat). Atlas has had experience with other dogs, cats and kiddos as well. He's good in a crate and while he's good on a leash, he is pretty strong, so if you're looking to work on your reps, he's happy to help with resistance training! He seems to be house-trained and know a few commands, but of course, Atlas will need some extra TLC (tender, love and care) once he officially joins your home.
If you’re looking for a devoted companion with a big presence and an even bigger personality, handsome Atlas is the guy for you!

PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works.
Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
