Meet Nellie!

Nellie is an absolutely adorable 14 year old Dachshund/Chihuahua mix of some sort, weighing just 8 pounds, and she is truly one of the sweetest little souls you could ever meet! With her tiny body, adorable little prance, and tongue that permanently sticks out, Nellie is as cute as a button and an absolute GEM of a dog!

Sadly, Nellie hasn’t had the easiest life. At 14 years old, she found herself in a big shelter alongside another little dog. Thankfully, both made it safely into our care, and while her friend has already found her forever home, sweet Nellie is still waiting for hers. We would love nothing more than to find this precious girl the retirement home she deserves!

Nellie is wonderful with absolutely everyone, dogs, cats and people of all ages! She loves being held, adores bum scratches, and is happiest when she’s close to her humans. She’s a professional snuggler who loves nesting into cozy blankets, burrowing underneath them, and curling up on the couch. We’d especially love to find Nellie a family who is home a good amount of the time, because this little lady deserves all the love and companionship she can get!

And don’t let her age fool you! Nellie still has plenty of life and personality. She loves exploring, following her nose, playing, and prancing around with the cutest little walk. She’s also wonderful about going potty outside and much prefers doing her business outdoors rather than using pee pads.

Medically, Nellie has been through quite a bit. She underwent an extensive dental procedure due to severe dental disease and a fractured jaw, leaving her with just a tooth or two and that adorable little tongue hanging out! Thankfully, she eats and drinks wonderfully. She also came into the shelter suffering from severe flea dermatitis, which caused significant hair loss. She’s since been treated, and her beautiful little coat is growing back nicely! Nellie is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and will have her health certificate prior to adoption.

We know that at 14 years old, Nellie may not be everyone’s first choice, but whoever opens their heart to this precious little girl is going to be getting someone incredibly special. She’s sweet, gentle, affectionate, playful, and has so much love left to give.
Nellie doesn’t need much...just a warm lap, a cozy blanket, and a family who will love and cherish her for however many golden years she has left. Let’s find this beautiful little soul the happily ever after she deserves!
