Meet Divena!

Divena is an absolutely beautiful 5 year old long haired Miniature Dachshund weighing just 8 pounds. This precious little girl has had a very different start to life than most dogs, and she’s looking for a very special family who will give her the patience, understanding, and unconditional love she deserves. Divena is a sweet girl underneath her fears, but she’s going to need someone willing to help her discover that the world doesn’t have to be such a scary place.

Sadly, Divena came to us as a breeder release, meaning she spent her entire life living in a kennel and being used for breeding. She has never truly known what it means to be someone’s beloved family member, and because of that, people and unfamiliar situations can be very frightening for her. She’s extremely shy and timid, especially when first meeting someone, and she needs time to build trust. Divena does not currently enjoy being picked up, being chased, cornered, or pressured into interacting can make her even more fearful. It’s incredibly important that her future family understands her body language, respects her boundaries, and allows her to approach them when she’s ready.

The good news is that we’re already seeing little glimpses of the sweet girl hiding underneath all that fear! When things are calm and settled in her foster home, Divena begins to relax and feels more comfortable being around her people. She’s showing us that with time, consistency, and a gentle approach, she can slowly begin to trust. She does wonderfully with other dogs of all sizes and seems much more comfortable around canine companions than unfamiliar people. Having another friendly, confident dog in the home could be a wonderful way to help her feel more secure as she adjusts to family life.

Divena is looking for an experienced, dog savvy adopter who truly understands fearful dogs, ideally someone familiar with breeder releases or dogs who have had very limited human interaction. A quiet, low-traffic household without young children is important for her, and a securely fenced yard would be ideal so she can safely enjoy the outdoors without being pressured into unfamiliar situations. Her family will need to be comfortable letting her decompress at her own pace, even if that means giving her weeks or longer before expecting affection or physical interaction. She doesn’t need someone to rush her progress. She needs someone who will celebrate the little victories and understand that trust is something she must be allowed to build.

Divena is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and will have her health certificate prior to adoption. She’s not going to be the type of dog who immediately runs into your arms or showers you with kisses, and that’s okay. What she needs most is someone who will love her exactly where she is today, without expectations or pressure, and give her the opportunity to blossom into the dog we know she can become.

After five years of knowing nothing but life as a breeding dog, Divena deserves a home where she can finally feel safe, comfortable, and loved. We know her perfect person is out there, someone who understands that sometimes the most rewarding relationships are the ones that take a little extra time to build.
