We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog.
Peanut, 1.5 years old, neutered male, Chihuahua mix, 20 pounds. He is in a foster home in San Antonio Texas and able to transport once approved.
Peanut was rescued along with 80 other dogs from a hoarding situation in Houston. Yes, you read that correctly. 80 dogs living in one person's yard. We were able to help 13 dogs out of this group. Peanut is one of the youngest adults we pulled and it was clear he really needed structure and consistency. He's had some anxiety and we are not too surprised given he's lived his whole life in one place with so many other dogs
We think Peanut is somewhere between 1-1.5 years old. He did not know how to walk on a leash and as you can see in the video has really learned to "dog". He has truly flourished in his foster home and has grown and learned so much in the 6 weeks he's been in care with us.
He shares a home with one of the dogs where he came from and a larger dog.

Peanut is a young, high-energy pup with a playful spirit that's impossible not to love. He lives life like every day is the best day ever, especially if there are toys to chase, dogs to play with, or people to follow around. His favorite game is a spirited round of chase, and if another dog has a toy or bone... well, Peanut may decide it should belong to him! Thankfully, he's very respectful when other dogs set boundaries and is learning great manners from his canine friends.
While Peanut is full of confidence during playtime, the rest of the world can still feel a little overwhelming. New people, unfamiliar places, and life on a leash are all things he's continuing to discover. Sometimes he's excited to meet strangers, other times he's a little unsure—but underneath it all is a sweet dog who genuinely wants to trust and connect. His adorable head tilt says it all: he's trying so hard to understand and be the very best boy.
Peanut is incredibly smart and eager to learn. He's already working on commands like sit, down, kennel, and settle, and with a consistent routine and positive reinforcement, he'll continue making wonderful progress. He's still working on house training and will need an adopter who understands accidents are simply part of his learning journey. He also isn't ready for free roam when left alone, as he's still a curious puppy who enjoys investigating (and chewing!) anything within reach.
Because of his playful mouthiness and energetic nature, Peanut would do best in a home with teens or older children (15+ preferred). He has not been tested with cats. He would absolutely thrive with another friendly, patient dog who can continue teaching him the ropes and help build his confidence.
Peanut is looking for more than just a home—he's looking for someone willing to invest in him. Someone who understands that rescue dogs don't always know how to be pets right away, but with patience, structure, love, and plenty of adventures, they blossom into incredible companions.
If you enjoy hiking, long walks, outdoor adventures, training, or even dog sports like agility, Peanut would love to be your partner. He's athletic, eager to please, endlessly entertaining, and ready to become the loyal best friend he's always been meant to be.

Active family or individual committed to consistency, structure and basic training
Another friendly, tolerant dog for companionship (not required)
Children 15+ (or an adult-only home)
Patient adopter who understands he's still learning
Plenty of exercise, enrichment, and love

Please note our process starts with an application. If we think you might be a good fit, we will reach out to coordinate a phone interview. This is followed by a video call with the foster home. Virtual home visit, personal and vet reference checks are required to complete the process. Transport is included in our adoption donation.
