Cairn Terrier and Chihuahua Dogs Available for Adoption in Yakima, Washington

Meet Percy, a nine-month-old Cairn Terrier/Chihuahua mix weighing 15 pounds.

Percy is an outgoing, active Terrier mix who loves being part of the action. Whether it’s a neighborhood walk, exploring the yard, or tagging along on adventures, he’s happiest when he has something to do and someone to do it with. He walks nicely on leash and enjoys getting out to stretch his legs and investigate the world around him.

Like many Terriers, Percy is intelligent, spirited, and strong willed. Terrier breeds were originally developed to hunt vermin, so he naturally has a high prey drive and will eagerly chase mice, birds, squirrels, and just about anything that moves. His future family should understand typical Terrier traits — these dogs are confident, determined, and can absolutely take over the household if boundaries and structure are not in place. Percy will thrive with an owner who is calm, consistent, and willing to take the lead.

Percy was owner surrendered after struggling to get along with other small dogs. He can become possessive of his people and belongings around them, so he’ll need careful management and an adopter who understands canine behavior and is committed to setting clear expectations. Because of this, Percy may do best as the only dog in the home or with very experienced owners who can properly supervise interactions.

His grooming needs are fairly mild. His scruffy coat will benefit from regular brushing and occasional grooming to keep him looking and feeling his best, but he’s not a high-maintenance guy.

Percy is looking for a home that appreciates the fun, feisty nature Terriers are famous for — someone who enjoys an active dog with personality, confidence, and plenty of charm. In the right home, Percy will make a loyal and entertaining companion.
