Meet Daria & Chiquita — A Gentle Girl & Her Brave Little Sidekick

Some friendships just make you braver.

Daria and Chiquita may seem like an unlikely pair, but together, these two girls have found exactly what they needed in each other. Daria is a stunning, floofy, gentle soul who approaches the world cautiously. Chiquita is her cheerful, intrepid little sidekick—the confident friend who reminds Daria that the world isn't quite so scary after all.

Daria came to us from a large, free-roaming outdoor cat colony. While many of the cats there were happiest living outdoors, our rescue team saw something different in Daria: a quiet, gentle girl who deserved the chance to know the safety and comfort of a home.

Daria is deaf and naturally shy. She tends to hang back and observe, sometimes making herself small when she feels unsure. She isn't a cat who will march into a new home and immediately demand the best seat on the couch. Her trust needs to be earned slowly and gently.

Then along came Chiquita.

This sweet young tabby was found wandering near a hotel parking lot, and from the beginning, she showed us her sunny, easygoing personality. Chiquita enjoys attention, being petted, and even being held. She's curious and confident without being a wild-child kitten—and when she met Daria, she seemed to understand exactly what her new friend needed.

The difference in Daria was remarkable. With Chiquita nearby, she became more confident and comfortable. The girls aren't attached at the hip every second of the day, but Daria draws tremendous reassurance from knowing her little friend is there. They cuddle, keep each other company, and navigate life beautifully as a team.

Daria is slowly learning how nice it can be to be gently petted and brushed—which is fortunate, because that magnificent long coat appreciates a good grooming session! She prefers keeping all four paws on the ground rather than being picked up, and her future family will need to give her the time and space to settle in at her own pace.

These girls are looking for a patient, loving family who will embrace them as the package deal they are. They can live with cat-friendly dogs with appropriate introductions, and because Daria needs a calmer, more predictable environment, a home with older children only will be the best fit.

Chiquita may be the brave one right now, but we think that with time, patience, and plenty of love, Daria will discover just how brave she can be too.
