Meet Callie!
Callie came to us because she was not getting along with other cats in the home. She has love to give to a trusted human when she feels safe, but you likely won't get a full sense of her personality on first meeting, or even when you first bring her home.
She is looking for a cat-savvy, patient and understanding person who understands that you can't rush the process, and who appreciates the special experience of building trust over time in an environment that makes her feel safe. In a new home she would prefer there to be peace and quiet, and opportunities for cuddling available when she's ready. While it took a little bit of time for her to settle into the shelter, we have enjoyed starting to see this side of her.
This sensitive girl tends toward the "please don't perceive me" vibes when she's nervous and will need a cozy, safe place to hide when she feels the need. Despite likely wanting alone time to settle in, it will be important to set up the environment to not force her to isolate herself long-term in order to have privacy and a sense of safety. After a period of time settling in, it will be important to encourage her comfort moving around the home and to maximize her ability to explore and build confidence in her new territory. Things like cat shelves added to the walls can be a wonderful addition to your decor. Additionally, cat trees and other elevated surfaces increase the living space available for a cat -typically helping them feel more confident by being off the floor.
As a long-haired cat, she may need a little extra help keeping her coat in good shape. The stress in her previous home likely contributed to her not keeping herself well-groomed. Introducing consistent and gentle brushing into her daily routine will help keep her coat beautiful and healthy. Making it a positive, rewarding experience can also be a nice bonding experience.
