DESCRIPTION
Meet Susie!
Susie came into our care when she was unable to stay in her previous home due to her owner's health. She is an independent lady that prefers to bond with her one special person and to live a calm, quiet life as a homebody. She is waiting to meet just the right person to be her kindred spirit who can learn her quirks and body language cues.
In a new home, Susie would prefer there to be peace and quiet, with safe and cozy spots for lying in sunbeams and watching out the window without unwanted interruptions. When she's calm and comfortable, she will certainly enjoy petting and affection when she's in the mood, however she's not one for sitting on laps or getting picked up. When she's feeling a bit overwhelmed or stressed, she would prefer to have her alone time. At other times when she's ready for her meals or feeling a bit more social, she'll be sure to be chatty to let you know.
In a new home, being proactive about setting up the environment to reduce exposure to things that she might find stressful will be important. Things like cat shelves added to the walls can be a wonderful addition to your decor. Additionally, cat trees and other elevated surfaces increase the living space available for a cat, helping them feel more confident by being off the floor and giving them extra opportunities for climbing, perching, and surveying the kingdom! Providing ample indoor enrichment will be essential to her being able to exhibit healthy cat behavior indoors, such as playing, climbing and scratching. Additionally, easy and convenient access to her litter box, possibly adding a second litter box, and keeping good litter box hygiene will be high on her list of requests.
Cats: Susie has no known experience living with cats but may do best as an only cat in the home.
Dogs: Susie has previously lived with dogs and may do well with a respectful, cat-savvy dog in an adoptive home, with an appropriate set-up to allow for separate areas for resources.
Children: Susie has previously displayed stress behaviors related to living with children. Suki is looking for a home without children.
